Note from Kelly.
Hello and Happy New Year my decorating friends!
I hope that you all enjoyed the Holiday Season. Mine went by so quick but it was great!
So now what do we do? Clean, organize, shop January white sales. Since I can not stop always wanting to decorate something and change things around, last week I redecorated my fireplace mantel after I vacuumed up the last of the pine needles. This is what it has looked like forever:
This year, instead of rushing to just put everything back in it's place, I took my time and after adding pieces on the mantel, I would step back and look and then either add or take away objects. You can work with all types of accessories such as artwork, vases, candles and personal items that you love and would like to look at often. Do not be afraid to just try something, you can always take it away. Try layering artwork with other pictures or mirrors for a new twist. Try to make it fun and something you smile at every time you come into the room.
And this is what it looked like after I finished and was happy with it:
What do you think? It is still simple but looks refreshed and I do smile every time I look at my naked man from Todos Santos and my bird from Cabo that I picked up on my Mexican vacation! With your room looking all naked after the Christmas tree is down, it is the perfect time to experiment with rearranging your furniture and accessories. If you need help, give me a call!

Just a couple quick ideas for easy, beautiful, inexpensive decorating:
Best Accessories: One of my favorite accessories to decorate with are glass hurricane lamps. They are so versatile and easy to decorate with and they are not expensive. Great accessory to get that bang for your buck look. Not only easy to decorate at the Holiday's, glass hurricanes look great sitting alone or in a group on a dining table all year round. Glass is also easy to pair with other ceramics and accessories.
Decorate around the hurricane with greenery, flowers or garland.
Stock up on different color candles so you can coordinate the color with your linens.
Bottom can be filled with rice, stones, sand, faux snow, cranberries, ornaments, pine cones, etc., or they look beautiful just left empty.
Fill them with colored or clear marbles for a modern look.
Arrange seasonal fruits and veggies: Lemons, pomegranates, green apples, artichokes and gourds look great.
These hurricanes above can be found at Target. Wouldn't they look nice with water and maybe a little aqua candle? Plus they are low so they will not be in the way at dinner. A row of three or five would be beautiful down the center of table. I bet if you looked around your home you would find accessories you can use now that never go out of style such as these glass hurricane lamps! |
