Hello my decorating friends!
I missed you guys! I don't know if I like this every other month format. All this social networking is making my head spin! I really like to write on my blog but it also takes sooo much time! So has anyone done any recent home projects? I have had a lot of calls needing my color consulting 'expertise.' I am also still working on a kitchen redesign in North Smithfield, and I am also helping a client in Portsmouth with her whole house! Love it. On my own home front, I completed decorating (almost) a room in my NH home. It was a real challenge because there is no wall space (mostly windows) to decorate and it is kind of an awkward room off the bedroom. This is how it came out:
I have been using my photos of clouds and sunsets to blow up and make into inexpensive artwork. If you want to see more of this room's redesign, visit here.
Last week I enjoyed a few beautiful weather days in Boston for my annual IRN conference. We visited the Boston Design Center which I really enjoyed. All that fabric in Robert Allen Designs and Fabric Place! Gives me the chills to remember being able to touch it all! :) Some of my favorite seminars were about outdoor lighting, flooring and Ben Moore color forecasting. My very favorite class, because I love using flowers, was 'Floral Design.' I have added some of the tips I learned below under Decorating Tips. You will be amazed at what you did not know about taking care of flowers all these years! If you have any questions or suggestions, please write me kellybernierdesigns@cox.net and let me know what you would like to read and learn more about. Any subjects you would like me to discuss? Any questions you would like personally answered? I enjoy your comments and questions! Until Next Time- Happy Decorating!

Just a couple quick ideas for easy, beautiful, inexpensive decorating:
When getting flowers ready to put in a vase, first strip the lower foliage off the stem then use a knife to cut stem at a 45 degree angle and put in hot scalding water (as hot as your hands can stand under facet) and a flower preservative in a vase. You should dump your water out every few days, cut and again put in vase with scalding hot water and preservative.
Did you know that tulips continue to grow another 2" after they are cut? It is best to keep tulips together as tight as possible and not put them in water until ready to use. Tulips come from Holland and are dormant until put into water. And another thing about tulips and other cut flowers- keep them away from apples! The gas from the apples causes the flowers to wilt and die.
Did you know you can not use daffodils with other flowers? Daffodils have poison in their stems which will kill the other flowers. If you buy your flowers at a supermarket and they are wrapped in plastic, try to remove plastic as soon as possible to prevent mold. Are familiar with all of these flower secrets?
