Note from Kelly
Hello again my decorating friends!
Can you believe it is already the end of July! Wow. We still have a bit of nice weather left so be sure to enjoy the outdoors. And take time for yourself, even if it is just sitting down with a cup of coffee or tea for 30 minutes. You deserve it right? If you have any questions or suggestions, please write me kellybernierdesigns@cox.net and let me know what you would like to read and learn more about. Any subjects you would like me to discuss? Any questions you would like personally answered? I enjoy your comments and questions.

Decorating Tips
Just a couple quick ideas for easy, beautiful, inexpensive decorating:
Pottery Barn |
Heap a stack of books on a coffee table, side table or credenza. The effect is always the same, easy chic that goes far in making a room look collected.
Flowers with Punch
A hint of color in the way of fresh flowers can keep any room from becoming dull. The key is in identifying a contrasting colour to the decor in the room. For example, purple dahlias would work well in a yellow or orange room. To read more about this and flower arranging click here . |
Dear Kelly,
I want to decorate my apartment, but it is such a small space I am afraid of making the rooms look crowded and smaller. Any advice?
Meg
Hi Meg,
The first thought that comes to mind is to be careful of having too many small 'nicknacks' spread all around the room. Nothing makes a room look more crowded than clutter. And I do not believe that using large pieces of furniture makes a room smaller. I would rather see a large comfortable chair with an ottoman in a room rather than a petite little chair that besides being uncomfortable, looks lost in a room. In my Tips & Advice on my website this month here, I found a great website that is all about apartment living. A great resource for apartment basics, apartment lifestyles, etc. Here is the link if you are interested in reading more ForRent.com. Hope this helps!
Thanks for writing Meg! |
