Decorating Tips
Just a couple quick ideas for easy, beautiful, inexpensive decorating:
*How do you know which colors will outlast trends? A classic color is timeless, associated with elements of nature that we think of as ever-present: rock, stone, pebbles, marble and granite. That does not just mean beige and white. Think of different degrees (shades) of gray for instance.
*When painting around windows, you can easily protect your glass by grabbing a bunch of newspaper. Gently soak a page or two and place directly on the glass. The water will adhere it to the window. When you are done painting, simply pull the paper off. If you notice some paper sticking, you can spray it a bit with some water and it should peel right off.
*When you are using a shellac based paint, you can not just wash off the paint brushes with soap and water. What to use? An easy solution is to use a container filled with rubbing alcohol. The rubbing alcohol will actually dissolve the shellac making the cleaning a breeze.
*When you are painting around the house, what can you do to cover things like door knobs to keep them clean from splatters? Grab some aluminum foil or plastic wrap. You can wrap it around the knobs easily. Just a note of caution: Do not use aluminum foil near electrical outlets or light switches.
These photos are from a client's home in Cumberland, RI. We used many of her own furnishings which kept the costs down. The color she chose for the walls in the living room is Benjamin Moore 'Montpelier AF-555.' The hallway and kitchen were painted Ben Moore ''Honeymoon' AF-345.
