Note from Kelly

Happy May and Mother's Day everyone!  It has been 80 degrees and  I am so excited I can't stand it!  With the nice weather, my decorating business also heats up.  I am so fortunate to do what I love everyday. I am busy getting ready for the Southern New England Women's Expo which is on May 3 at the Crowne Royal Plaza in Warwick.  Every purchase of 'Magic of Paint- Choosing Wall Colors for Your Home' at the expo will be automatically entered in a contest for a two hour home design consultation from Interior Style ReDesign.  There are over 125 exhibitor's with home decor, food tasting, beauty makeovers and much more.  Please stop by IS ReDesign's booth and say hello.  I am also giving a paint color seminar at 1:15 in the Tiverton Seminar room.  I hope to see you there!

 Until next time-Happy Decorating!

Decorating Tips
Just a couple quick ideas for easy, beautiful, inexpensive decorating:
  • Whether you choose ceramic, porcelain or stone tile, you need to use grout.  Instead of using cement grout, which discolors easily, attracts mildew and always seems to need cleaned and resealed, use epoxy grout.  It is stain resistant and very durable.  It may be a bit more expensive to purchase epoxy grout, but well worth the cost.
  • A large accessory can add punch to an otherwise dull room.  Consider a large print, painting or large colorful rug to use as a great focal piece in your room.
  • To avoid visual overload in a room, always choose one wall in each room to be art free.  You need a resting place for your eyes.  Remember large windows and sliding doors are also considered art due to the outside view.
  • Group unlike accessories on a tray or an open box to unify them.
  •  A large accessory can add punch to  a dull room.      Consider using a large print, a painting, or a colorful rug.

Dear Kelly,
nice bedroom
What is a quick, easy way to update my bedroom for a fresh, spring look without spending a lot of money?
The main two areas I would start with would be the bed & windows.  Window coverings should look light and open all the way to let the light in.  I would suggest taking off the heavy comforter off the bed and instead make a bed with light coverings.  Take soft, white or cream sheets, tuck in sides tightly and fold down a few inches.  Put summery light coverlet(solid or patterned) folded up at the bottom of bed.  Take a look at bed tables, try to keep them uncluttered.  Maybe use a pretty, small vase next to you to put a cut fresh flower.
