Note from Kelly

Good morning everyone!  It's April already, Easter is only a week away and I am again wondering where has the time gone!
IS ReDesign's 'Use What You Have' decorating schedule is finally starting to be busy again.  Springtime always gets busier as everyone wants to renew and refresh their homes. I help with furniture rearranging, de-cluttering, shopping and even art & accessory placement for a quick fix.  I have also seen a sharp increase with Resale Ready consultations.  Homeowners and realtors are looking for ways to make their properties more attractive to increase the value and to sell quickly.  I am also now receiving a lot of calls for color consultations in homes and offices.  If you have not had a chance yet, please click on link below to see preview of my DVD 'Magic of Paint".  I am confident you will learn how to get going on that decorating project, and the best part, how to finish.

 Until next time-Happy Decorating!

Choosing a Paint Color
So you decided to paint your bathroom. You know it is time because you practically close your eyes when you enter.  You have not painted or bought anything new for the room in at least 10 years. (How time flies!)                     Where do you begin?
Before             b&a ri homeFirst ask yourself, do you have tile on the walls or floors that you are keeping?  Countertops? Cabinets?  These all have to be take into consideration when you choose a paint color.  If you have a dark colored or patterned tile, I would start with that.  You want to choose a color to complement the tile.  If you have neutral tile and counters as in this room to left, where to begin?  My advice is to start with a beautiful new shower curtain, a rug, a towel or even a picture of artwork you love.  I started this room with this pretty shower curtain because everything in the room was a very plain beige.  It is hard to see the colors well in picture, but the blue I matched with the curtain is Benjamin Moore Blue Echo #AF505.  Even though it is a small room, still be sure to bring a paint sample home to try.  Try the color against your flooring, tub, cabinets and counter.  Look at the color during the day and again at night with your lighting.  If it looks good, time to paint.  Do not be afraid to experiment with color in this room!

Wouldn't you just love to walk in the room where you love the color so much it makes you smile each time?

Decorating Tips
Just a couple quick ideas for easy, beautiful, inexpensive decorating:
  • Next time you are in a Home Depot, Lowes or  Michaels, pick yourself up a color wheel.  They come in all different sizes.  There is quite a bit of information printed right on them to help you understand the different color schemes and how colors relate to each other.  For instance, if you want the walls to pop out, to be aggressive, you would choose a warm color: reds, oranges and yellows.  If you want your walls to step back, recede, you would choose a cool color: greens, blues and violets.
  • When you are considering choosing a rug, remember a  rug anchors the room.  Depending on the color and texture, it can make a bold statement or blend quietly.  Dark, rich colors create a cozy feeling and help define a more intimate space.  Lighter colors open up a small space and when coordinated with the wall colors, make a room appear larger.  Rugs with yellow, orange or red add warmth to rooms with indirect light, while cool blues and greens help create a calm atmosphere in sunny rooms.
