| Note from Kelly
Welcome to the New Year. I always feel I get to start all over with a new beginning. 2009 is full of promise- things ARE going to be better. Things were difficult in 2008, but I feel blessed my family and I are all healthy and together. I am going to keep up with my Reduce, Recycle, Reuse philosophy until things turn around and I can afford to buy new. I have purchased a few new items - sales are just wonderful after Christmas. Get out all those catalogs where you turned pages over (in hope that it would go on sale)- most likely it has now. January is also the sales month for home furnishings so that means even more savings. Love those bargains!!
PS- If you get a chance, check out my new website. I had a lot of fun putting it all together. I hope you enjoy. Also, if you know anyone who might like to receive this newsletter, please forward. Thank you.
Until next time-Happy Decorating! Kelly
May your pockets be heavy and your heart be light,
May good luck pursue you each morning and night.
Irish Blessing
Happy New Year Everyone! |

Quick and Easy Redesign
As I was taking down my Christmas tree and all my holiday decorations, I decided I would refresh my living room and redecorate a little bit. After everything was taken down and I had an empty room, I looked around first and decided which pieces of furniture were definitely staying. I decided to keep the couch, leather chair, coffee table and an end table. The easiest way to change up a room is to bring in something in with color (that will still match my largest upholstered piece- which is my couch.). For example, it could be a large picture or piece of art, a rug or colorful pillows. I have an area rug- I'm not too crazy about, but it's still in style and I do not have a lot of money to spend right now. I decided to go look around at a couple of stores to see if I could find a large piece of art that I loved. I saw a couple nice prints, but not quite what I was looking for. So I came back home, took everything off the fireplace mantle, cleaned it off and then I put same picture back up. Actually, now everything else was gone from around it, it did not look so bad. (Art is so individual- whatever the style or what the picture is of, if you love it, it will work perfect in your home). The main project I had to do was rearranging the furniture(and cleaning underneath!) A decorating rule is to always start with the largest piece in the room, which in the living room is usually the couch. I placed it perpendicular with the fireplace instead of directly across. I put my large leather chair facing the couch (to make a conversation area) near the fireplace. I placed an area rug in between to anchor the arrangement. I liked the open area, so I decided not to put coffee table in the middle, but instead on the side of couch. I went through my accessories I had in room and decided to put a few away to keep it from looking too cluttered. I walked around my home looking for interesting items also that I could use it the living room. Ta Da! My living room looks updated and new. Now, if I can talk my husband into a little painting...

| Decorating Tips
Just a couple quick ideas for easy, beautiful, inexpensive decorating:
- My new favorite tip- Fill shallow wooden boxes or small deep trays or even a small vase, and fill with colored pencils. It looks really nice and is practical in that you can sketch or make lists whenever the urge strikes.

- For more of a wow look, use a contrasting (complementary) color for your tablecloth and napkins colors. For example blue & orange; violet & yellow and red and green. Try different tints, tones & shades of colors.
- To help create balance and scale, use symmetry- pairs of pictures, sconces, lamps, chairs, etc.
- Try to edit your furnishing when redesigning. Sometimes you need to take something away rather than add.

Inspirational Over the last week I have gotten many inspirational movies and positive messages
from my networking friends and from daily newsletters, and I thought I would
share them with you. The overall message is the same, that you have to have a
vision, believe in yourself and use your talents. What's Your Vision?
