Paging Columbus: Poems We Wrote and We Wish We Had Written

Thursday, August 4th,
6 to 8pm

Join us for the next installment of Paging Columbus. Four poets will share their own words, and words they wish they could claim as their own (properly attributed, of course).  We'll hear from Natalie Shapero, Tory Adkisson, Mitch Matthew, and Joshua Butts.

As usual, Hannah Stephenson will host the event (and share a poem or two she desperately loves); also as usual, we'll be in the OSU Urban Arts Space from 6-8 PM, with readings scheduled to start at exactly 6:20ish. Also as usual, there will be things to eat and drink, and it'll be an inspiring evening.

On View

Control

Friday, July 29th through Friday, August 26th

Reception: Thursday, August 18, 2011, 5 to 7pm

Control 3

City Center Gallery becomes a battleground; lines are drawn, and the work is incrementally embedded into the space. In Control, Penrose/Bontrager design and play a game that explores the relationships between automated process, user and interface. The turn-based game takes place throughout the exhibition's run as each artist develops his individual system in response to the sequential developments of the other.

Penrose/Bontrager are attracted to the stylized control panels that exist within the video-scape of film and television. Littered with flashing lights, switches, buttons and sliders, these control panels suggest a world of possibilities between the user and the automated process. Through engaging these materials, the work poses such questions as: What does a button do?  How does it do it? And what is done to the one who pushes it?
