Urban Arts Outdoors in the Columbus Commons

We are excited to work in partnership with the Columbus Downtown Development Corporation for the Urban Arts Outdoors - an open air gallery on the grounds of the new Columbus Commons park. We'll have student and alumni artwork on display and for sale at our booths. 

Urban Arts Outdoors will be a part of the weekly Lunch on the Lawn at the park which will include a farmers market, live music coordinated by CAPA, and a plethora of food trucks.

Legendary guitarist Bill Orcutt will be making a rare stop in Central Ohio for this month's Marotta Hour. Orcutt uses acoustic guitar and combines delta blues, ragtime syncopation and no wave skronk in a wholly original approach to the instrument.

Marotta Hour is an electro-acoustic music series featuring unexpected sounds from free jazz to electronic to free-form improvisation. Come hear some of the most cutting-edge musicians and composers from Columbus and beyond. Free and open to all. Donations accepted.

Art Explorations: Yarn Bottles

Digital Video Workshop: Aesthetics

Join us each Saturday this June to learn about digital video recording.  At this workshop, we will be screening short films. Choices in sound, location, lighting, digital manipulation and other considerations can transform recordings from a youtube video to a work of art.

Art in the House

Young artist with work in the Art in the House show

 


The Art in the House exhibition displays an eclectic array of artwork produced by children participating in the Greater Columbus Arts Council's Art in the House program. Using the Frank Museum of Otterbein College's Ceremonial Objects & West African Artifacts exhibition as a point of inspiration, the young artists worked with the support of four master teaching artists to create works of art that are directly influenced by cultural objects from around the world.

The projects reveal ambitious bodies of work developed during their course of study in areas such as art and technology, ceramics, glass, painting and drawing, photography, printmaking and sculpture.


This exhibition is sponsored by the Department of Art and the College of Arts and Sciences.

The Accessible Expressions Ohio visual art exhibit and tour began in 1996. This program provides professional development opportunities for artists to create, exhibit and sell their art. Additionally the exhibition raises awareness of all abilities by presenting art by people with disabilities in inclusive settings. The OSU Urban Arts Space is proud to be one stop on the statewide tour in 2011.   

 

VSA Ohio is a statewide service organization dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities, creatively and inclusively, through the arts. VSAO is an affiliate of the international network, VSA, and presents programming in education, professional development, access, and outreach.

Spirit of an Appalachian Region:
Contemporary Artists Reflect on Southeast, Ohio

The unique spirit of southeastern Ohio-as shaped by its geography, history and people-will emanate from this exhibition, juried and brought to the OSU Urban Arts Space by Majestic Galleries. With an open call for entries from artists of southeastern Ohio, this exhibition will bring to Columbus works from a region that is rich with character and artistry.

Majestic Galleries is an artist cooperative based in Nelsonville, Ohio.

City Center Gallery at the OSU Urban Arts Space is an opportunity for local emerging artists to display their art and launch their careers.  One proposal per month will be given a grant of up to $500 and use of the corridor space at the entrance of the OSU Urban Arts Space.

By providing an exhibition space and funding, City Center hopes to foster the development of the independent, creative and innovative community in Columbus, Ohio.
