Painting Demo with Joe Gyurscak

Joe Gyurcsak, resident artist at our local Utrecht Art Supplies store, will be giving a painting demonstration at the Space. Join Gyurcsak as he creates a new work alla prima, which means "all at once, without time for the paint to dry." You can witness Gyurcsak at work and learn about his techniques and approach along the way.


This lecture-demonstration is free and open to all. Guests will also go home with coupons and giveaways from Utrecht!

Come hear and respond to the first stagings of a selection of the work of OSU's Winter 2011 Playwriting class, a rich mix of BA Theatre students and MFA Creative Writers. This week's readings feature plays by Ann Glaviano, Dominic Russ, Cate Fricke, and Clayton Clark.

Experience the Avenue:
A Columbus East Side Jazz Tradition
Mike Fields Jazz illustration

In this performance and discussion-based event, the Society for Creative Art and Talent (S.C.A.T.) explores the effect of the Jazz era on our very own city, taking visitors through the music's foundations in various locations of Columbus.

Guests can experience ragtime, blues and an assortment of other Jazz subgenres through live musical recreations, dancing and discussions held by local jazz painter Mike Fields and noted jazz social historian and educator Connie Boykin. Free and open to all. Light refreshments will be provided.

Gaming Anime Punch Style (GAPS) Coliseum: Rock Band
GAPS

Rock out during this event with the some of the hottest songs that can be found in the hit game Rock Band. Bring just yourself, or a full band and show us that you deserve to be on top in our 'battle of the bands'-style competition.  Each band will be judged on song difficulty, accuracy and most of all stage presence, making head banging almost an absolute must! Free and open to all.

The Art in the House exhibition displays an eclectic array of artwork produced by children participating in the Greater Columbus Arts Council's Art in the House program. Using the Frank Museum of Otterbein College's Ceremonial Objects & West African Artifacts exhibition as a point of inspiration, the young artists worked with the support of four master teaching artists to create works of art that are directly influenced by cultural objects from around the world.

This annual exhibition is an opportunity to sample an array of current directions in contemporary art, fresh from the studios of practicing professional artists who are completing MFA degrees in the Department of Art at The Ohio State University.

Participating artists work in painting and drawing, performance, sculpture, photography, ceramics, printmaking, art and technology, video, sound and varied combinations of these media.
