In celebration of one of our favorite holidays, the OSU Urban Arts Space presents a week of merging the arts with our planet. "OUR ART/OUR PLANET" is a series of environmentally-conscious programs that discuss, consider and promote the preservation of our planet. 

Come hear and respond to the first stagings of a selection of the work of OSU's Winter 2011 Playwriting class, a rich mix of BA Theatre students and MFA Creative Writers. This week's readings feature plays by Andrew Factor, Cory Spicer, Martel Coleman, and Jayson Troutman. 

Stick around to discuss the work in a post-show conversation, moderated by Jen Schlueter, Assistant Professor in the Department of Theatre. Questions? Email Jen at schlueter.10@osu.edu.

Love sharing and making CD mixes? Join our mix tape community! Urban Monthly Mix Exchange is a program for the community to mingle, become exposed to new musical artists, and exchange mix CDs with fellow music enthusiasts. In conjunction with 'OUR ART/OUR PLANET' Earth Week celebration, this month's theme will be "Songs to be at one with Nature."

Please bring a copy of your mix, accompanied by by a complete CD information sheet. This month's mix theme winner will receive a 30 dollar gift certificate to The North Market. Mediterranean appetizers will be provided by Katzinger's Delicatessen, so come with a little extra room in your belly! Columbus-based composer Rocco Di Pietro presents the world premiere of his piece "Italian Rajas." The piece joins together a series of narrated vignettes with musical themes. Featured performers include Di Pietro (narration, accordion), Ryan Jewell (percussion), Anthony Vine (trombone), Matt Ogborn (viola) and Larry Marotta (guitar). 

Marotta Hour is an electro-acoustic music series featuring unexpected sounds from free jazz to electronic to free-form improvisation. Free and open to all. Donations accepted. 

This series is part of our after-work programming offered Thursday evenings. Before or after the show, stop by Tip Top Kitchen & Cocktails and ask for the Urban Artists' Special. It's very special indeed and it's only $3.

Get the dirt on dirt! In the award-winning documentary Dirt!, directors Bill Benenson and Gene Rosow examine the environmental, economic, social and political impact of soil. For a movie that is self-proclaimed "simply about dirt", it is guaranteed to change the way you look at the roots of our world.

In this performance and discussion-based event, the Society for Creative Art and Talent (S.C.A.T.) explores the effect of the Jazz era on our very own city, taking visitors through the music's foundations in various locations of Columbus. Free and open to all. Light refreshments will be provided.

Saturday, April 30th, 2 to 6pm

Rock out during this event with the some of the hottest songs that can be found in the hit game Rock Band. Bring just yourself, or a full band and show us that you deserve to be on top in our 'battle of the bands'-style competition. Free and open to all.

The Art in the House exhibition displays an eclectic array of artwork produced by children participating in the Greater Columbus Arts Council's Art in the House program. Using the Frank Museum of Otterbein College's Ceremonial Objects & West African Artifacts exhibition as a point of inspiration, the young artists worked with the support of four master teaching artists to create works of art that are directly influenced by cultural objects from around the world.

Reception: Saturday, May 7th, 6 to 8pm 

This annual exhibition is an opportunity to sample an array of current directions in contemporary art, fresh from the studios of practicing professional artists who are completing MFA degrees in the Department of Art at The Ohio State University.

Participating artists work in painting and drawing, performance, sculpture, photography, ceramics, printmaking, art and technology, video, sound and varied combinations of these media.

The Ohio State University's Department of Art Bachelor of Fine Arts Senior Projects Exhibition presents the work of graduating art majors working in a wide range of media and approaches. The projects reveal ambitious bodies of work developed during their course of study in areas such as art and technology, ceramics, glass, painting and drawing, photography, printmaking, and sculpture.

This exhibition is sponsored by the Department of Art and the College of Arts and Sciences.

 
Every year the Department of Design hosts an exhibition featuring the senior theses of the undergraduates from each of the three programs: Industrial Design, Interior Design and Visual Communication Design. This exhibition is the culmination of the students' design experience at The Ohio State University.
