Urban Monthly Mix Exchange

Love sharing and making CD mixes? Join our mix tape community! Urban Monthly Mix Exchange is a program for the community to mingle, become exposed to new musical artists, and exchange mix CDs with fellow music enthusiasts. This month's winning theme is "Your personal soundtrack to a book
".


Please bring two copies of your mix, accompanied by a complete CD information sheet. One mix copy will be exchanged with a fellow mix master. Guests will also submit and vote for next month's mix theme. The person with the winning theme will receive a thirty-dollar gift certificate to a local venue!
Delicious dessert items will be provided by Katzinger's Delicatessen!

Marotta Hour: Sue Harshe

At this month's Marotta Hour, Sue Harshe will present a program of songs by German playwright/poet Bertolt Brecht. Bertolt Brecht remains one of the most influential figures in theater and drama. As Marotta Hour's second Brecht program, Sue Harshe will provide a unique interpretation of some of Brecht's theater classics.


Marotta Hour is an electro-acoustic music series featuring unexpected sounds from free jazz to electronic to free-form improvisation. Come hear some of the most cutting-edge musicians and composers from Columbus and beyond.


Free and open to all. Donations accepted.


This series is part of our after-work programming offered Thursday evenings. Before or after the show, stop by Tip Top Kitchen & Cocktails and ask for the Urban Artists' Special. It's very special indeed and its only $3.

The OSU Urban Arts Space invites you to attend a special event.  Multimedia artist Emily Moorhead will be maintaining her ephemeral work Deconstructing Polarities 2 in the Time-Sensitive exhibition. Using the installation of new ice as a platform for engagement, the artist will answer questions and welcome conversations about the work.

This is a hands-on, skill development workshop led by Dean Mark Shanda, providing participants with an edge for greater success with interviewing. Professor Mark Shanda is the Interim Dean of Arts and Humanities in the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University. Free and open to all.

Explore the rich history of Europe without leaving your chair! OSU staff member Kathy Simcox relives two trips to England, highlighting her recent two weeks studying abroad in Cambridge University and five days hiking in Peak District, as well as her previous London and Canterbury trip. Fabricated Art Reception
Join us as we celebrate City Center's Fabricated Art, a collection of fabric-based pieces composed by Don Coulter. Using objects such as denim jeans, leather jackets and aluminum pans, Coulter manipulates common materials to create lush landscapes and to capture the environment of the Jazz movement. Free and open to all. Light refreshments will be served.

By providing up to $2,000 in project support and guidance to see your project through, we are able to fuse innovative education and practical experience to create an opportunity for your ideas to be seen. Project ideas are not restricted to any specific topic.

ROY G BIV Gallery for Emerging Artists presents Time-Sensitive, an exhibition that features artwork exploring the idea of the ephemeral. Ephemeral artworks fade, disappear, or simply "end" due to the materials or time that they inhabit. The artworks in Time-Sensitive explore the impermanent and the transitory, as well as disintegration and decay. Juried by Ola Ståhl.

City Center presents Fabricated Art, a collection of fabric-based pieces composed by Don Coulter.

Using objects such as denim jeans, leather jackets and aluminum pans, Coulter manipulates common materials to create lush landscapes and capture the environment of the Jazz movement.  Coulter's environmentally-friendly pieces illustrate creative reuse of materials while also touching on past cultural movements, bringing them to the forefront of the gallery.

City Center at the OSU Urban Arts Space
 is an opportunity for local emerging artists to display their art and launch their careers.  One proposal per month will be given a grant of up to $500 and use of the corridor space at the entrance of the OSU Urban Arts Space.

By providing an exhibition space and funding, City Center hopes to foster the development of the independent, creative and innovative community in Columbus, Ohio.
