Contemplative Tour

Take a deeper look into the art of Charles A. Csuri as Beyond Boundaries
curator Dr. Janice M. Glowski leads a contemplative tour of the
exhibition. The tour will provide historical information about Csuri's
art and life and will teach techniques for understanding his work.

Art Explorations

Join us at the OSU Urban Arts Space to celebrate Arts in Education Week
with an afternoon of family-friendly art making with art educator, Amy
Buscemi. The OSU Urban Arts Space is celebrating National Arts in Education Week with a
lesson created by Amy Buscemi that will enhance the young audience's
understanding of artwork and explain to parents the many benefits,
including developmental advantages, of receiving an education in the
arts.
Art Explorations is a monthly family program designed to engage
youth (recommended for ages 4 to 8) and families on a different topic

Creative Connections with ReFINDesign Workshop and 83 Gallery
|
Saturday, September 18th 4 to 6pm
Come to the OSU Urban Arts Space for Creative Connections, as
ReFINDesign Workshop and 83 Gallery discuss the importance of
like-minded community connections and earth preservation, followed by a
screening of No Impact Man.
The gallery/workshop duo will discuss upcycling (the process of
transforming old or useless materials/products into more
environmentally friendly materials/products), and how the community can
participate in related environmental movements such as Do It Yourself
(DIY) culture or junkyard art and design. Following the discussion,
there will be a screening of No Impact Man, a documentary
film that follows writer Colin Beavan and his family in their one-year
experience of a "no net impact" on the environment.

Call for Entries: Art for Alix Reese Deadline: Saturday, September 18th
|
The OSU Urban Arts Space proudly
presents Art for Alix Reese, a 6-day benefit to support a valuable
member of the Columbus community. While driving on May 27, 2010,
Alexandria Reese was struck in the neck by crossfire on the east side
of Columbus. The bullet severely damaged her spinal cord, paralyzing
her from the shoulders down.
Embracing Alix's love of art, the OSU Urban Arts Space is hosting a
benefit with artwork, raffles and live performances to raise funds for
the victim's medical bills and life-long care. Artwork donated by local
artists will be available for purchase through a silent art auction.
Guests can also purchase raffle tickets for the chance to win several
prizes, generously donated by Columbus area businesses. Proceeds from
the sale of artwork and raffle tickets will go directly to Alix's
family.
To donate artwork to the auction, please complete and turn in a submission form by September 18, 2010.

Upcoming Programs
Thursday, September 23rd, 6 to 7pm Yoga Night Come enjoy a night of relaxation and reflection at the OSU Urban Arts
Space. In conjunction with two Ohio State University clubs, the OSU Urban Arts Space will host a
Hatha yoga class taught by Theresa Colson. The class will explore the
connections between art and yoga through the tranquility and movement
found in Charles A. Csuri's work. Free and open to all. RSVP to uaseducation@osu.edu to participate; RSVPs are required to attend the program.
Thursday, September 23rd, 7 to 8pm Urban Monthly Music Exchange Love sharing and making CD mixes? Join our mix tape community! Urban
Monthly Music Exchange is a program for the community to mingle, become
exposed to new musical artists, and exchange mix CDs with fellow music

Saturday, September 25th, 1:30 to 4:30pm Discovering Robotics In partnership with COSI, the OSU Urban Arts Space offers an
opportunity for kids to build basic robotics knowledge and skills using
Lego Mindstorms robots kits. Participants will learn how to design and test necessary robotic parts
and functions, and experience a fun challenge in creativity and
experimentation while problem solving to create a working robot. RSVP's are required for this free program. Please RSVP to uas@osu.edu, or call (614) 292-8861. Workshop is limited to 20 participants.

See the critically acclaimed artwork of Charles A. Csuri, an artist who
brilliantly utilizes cutting-edge technology, for the first time in
Ohio at the OSU Urban Arts Space. This is an extensive retrospective exhibition, celebrating the life and work
of Charles A. Csuri, Emeritus Professor at The Ohio State University. This exhibition, curated by Janice M. Glowski, Ph.D., examines and
historically contextualizes over 85 of Csuri's computer artworks from
1963 to 2010.

Alan Price: Immersive Environments 2005-2010
Tuesday, July 6th through Saturday, October 2nd
|
Alan Price, Professor at The Ohio State University in the Department of
Design and at the Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design
(ACCAD), creates interactive virtual environments
using stereoscopic displays, touchscreens, and other alternative forms
of interaction and presentation.
This exhibit is a sampling of
Price's work over the past five years, including installations ranging
from images of the surreal to explorations of how we navigate the
border between physical and artificial environments, designing

Visualizing the Experiences of War (ViEW)
Thursday, July 29th through Saturday October 23rd, 2010

Erica Slone and Ash Woolson, both veterans and students in the
Department of Art at The Ohio State University, developed one of the
selected Idea Lab projects this year: Visualizing the Experience of War (ViEW). The ViEW
project pairs an artist with a veteran to create an original piece
based on that veteran's experience during the wars in Iraq and
Afghanistan. The project includes more than twenty veteran and artist
pairs working together to create a piece of artwork.

Apparition/The Styrofoam Symphony
Friday, August 20th through Friday, September 17th 2010

This exhibition showcases two City Center proposals that each expose the effects of human activities.
The Styrofoam Symphony is a sound installation that uses Styrofoam as the medium and
conceptual drive to bring about issues such as mass consumption, the
environment, and public naivety.
Using ambiguity to expose the limitations of human perception as an informative tool, Apparition showcases abstract graphite drawings and manipulated digital imagery to challenge the viewer's
perception.

City Center at the OSU Urban Arts Space

Call for entries from local emerging artists:
City Center at the OSU Urban Arts Space is an opportunity for local
emerging artists to display their art and launch their careers. One
proposal per month will be given a $500 grant and use of the corridor space at
the entrance of the OSU Urban Arts Space.
By providing an exhibition
space and funding, City Center hopes to
foster the development of the independent, creative, and innovative community in Columbus, Ohio.
