Transient Music Series

At this month's performance, the OSU Urban Arts Space will feature the musical improvisation of longtime collaborative partners Jack Wright and Bob Marsh, and the duo of absurdist musician Ben Bennett and avant-garde poet/artist John M. Bennett.  Free and open to all.

The Transient Music Series, presented by OSU Urban Arts Space Student Assistant John Also Bennett, showcases musicians and performers from the contemporary experimental underground.

Quick and Easy Non-Adhesive Bookmaking

Thursday, August 12th
6 to 8pm

Interested in learning a quick and easy way to make your own notebook? Join us at the OSU Urban Arts Space for a bookmaking workshop where you will learn to make a notebook, led by printmaker-artist Jeremy Stone. The workshop demonstration will occur at 6pm, with a repeat demonstration at 7pm. Supplies and paper will be provided by the Space.

Marotta Hour: Be Blank Consort
At this month's Marotta Hour, Be Blank Consort will perform as a part of The Avant Writing Symposium 2010. Formed in 2001 during a residency assembled by critic Richard Kostelanetz, Be Blank Consort is an experimental poetry ensemble that writes, scores, and performs avant garde textual arrangements. Warrior Writers
Warrior Writers is a national project that brings together recent veterans and current service members in a creative environment to express themselves through art. The OSU Urban Arts Space invites veterans to participate in this free workshop, dedicated to creating a culture that uses art as a transformative tool. There are two sessions open for guests. See the critically acclaimed artwork of Charles A. Csuri, an artist who brilliantly utilizes cutting-edge technology, for the first time in Ohio at the OSU Urban Arts Space.  This is an extensive retrospective exhibition, celebrating the life and work of Charles A. Csuri, Emeritus Professor at The Ohio State University.  This exhibition, curated by Janice M. Glowski, Ph.D., examines and historically contextualizes over 85 of Csuri's computer artworks from 1963 to 2010.

Alan Price:
Immersive Environments 2005-2010

Green Woman2Alan Price, Professor at The Ohio State University in the Department of Design and at the Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design (ACCAD), creates interactive virtual environments using stereoscopic displays, touchscreens, and other alternative forms of interaction and presentation.

This exhibit is a sampling of Price's work over the past five years, including installations ranging from images of the surreal to explorations of how we navigate the border between physical and artificial environments, designing simulations of both the real and the imaginary.

Chine-collé: Chine-collé

e.f. hebner, seenThe City Center Voting Committee is thrilled to announce its decision for its launching exhibition: Chine-collé. The Columbus-based Chine-collé artist collective, comprised of Ross Caliendo, Todd Pleasants, Alex Ross, and Brian Sharrock, produces a vast array of pieces, including abstract paintings and a live performance. The exhibition presents a selection of innovative creations from these four local rising artists; each bringing unique and inspiring work to the OSU Urban Arts Space, to Columbus, and to the art world as a whole.

City Center at the OSU Urban Arts Space

Call for entries from local emerging artists:

City Center at the OSU Urban Arts Space
is an opportunity for local emerging artists to display their art and launch their careers.  One proposal per month will be given a $500 grant, and use of the corridor space at the entrance of the OSU Urban Arts Space.

By providing an exhibition space and funding, City Center hopes to foster the development of the independent, creative, and innovative community in Columbus, Ohio.
