OSU Department of Design Spring Exhibition Reception

Wednesday, June 9th 5 to 8pm
Celebrate the opening of this annual exhibition with the Ohio State University Department of Design undergraduates from each of
the three programs: Industrial Design, Interior Design, and Visual
Communication Design. This year, fifty design students will be
displaying their work, representing more than ten weeks of research and
development.
This public reception is free and open to all. Light refreshments will be available.

Art Explorations

Art
Explorations is a monthly family program designed to engage youth (ages 5
to 12) and families on a different topic each month, inspired by
artwork on display at the OSU Urban Arts Space.
This month, we'll explore how Fine, one of the artists featured in our recent 2010 Master of Fine Arts Exhibition,
uses the power of art to preserve family stories and memories. Bring
your children for a day of creating art and making
memories together. Parents, bring a camera with you and plan to
collaborate with your children!

Bachelor of Fine Arts Senior Projects Exhibition Reception

Join us for a free public reception for the Department of Art Bachelor of Fine Arts Senior Projects Exhibition. The projects reveal ambitious bodies of work developed during their
course of study in areas such as art and technology, ceramics, glass,
painting and drawing, photography, printmaking, and sculpture.

CAVAS Meeting

The OSU Urban Arts Space hosts the bi-monthly CAVAS (Columbus Area
Visitor and Audience Studies) gathering. This month's agenda includes a
discussion of ongoing studies and prototyping.
CAVAS is an informal, non-commercial group of people associated with
local arts and culture organizations serving audiences in informal
learning capacities. The group is free, and open to those in the
Columbus area interested in visitor and audience studies. If you are

City Center at the OSU Urban Arts Space

Call for entries from local emerging artists:
City Center at the OSU Urban Arts Space is an opportunity for local
emerging artists to display their art and launch their careers. One
proposal per month will be given a $500 grant, and use of the corridor space at
the entrance of the OSU Urban Arts Space.
By providing an exhibition
space and funding, City Center hopes to
foster the development of the independent, creative, and
forward-thinking community in Columbus, Ohio.

Upcoming Programs
Thursday, June 17th, 7 to 8pm Marotta Hour: Rocco Di Pietro At this month's Marotta Hour, Columbus composer Rocco Di Pietro presents his piece Body Trap.
The piece explores the interconnections between music and physical
healing, featuring acupuncturist Dr. Linda Chun along with an ensemble
of live musicians.
Friday, June 18th, 6 to 8pm 2010 High School Juried Exhibition Reception Join us in celebrating the 2010 High School Juried Exhibition, featuring the work of high
school students working in a range of mediums and approaches. Through
this juried exhibition, high school students learn the installation
process firsthand as well as showcase their art in a professional
environment.
Thursday, June 24th, 6 to 8pm Jacob Wick, Swarm Don't miss this
performance of Swarm by Brooklyn-based trumpet player, composer, and
improviser Jacob Wick. Wick, a native of Chicago, has performed, exhibited, and taught around the world. Swarm challenges conventional notions of what constitutes musical performance.
Thursday, July 1st, 6 to 8pm Who Does She Think She Is? - Film Screening Join the OSU Urban Arts Space for a screening of Who Does She Think She Is?, directed by Academy Award-winning producer Pamela Tanner Boll of Born into Brothels. The film examines the mothering versus working choice faced by American women artists. The screening will be followed by a question/answer session with Janis Wunderlich, an artist featured in the film.

developed during their course of study in areas such as art and
technology, ceramics, glass, painting and drawing, photography,
printmaking, and sculpture.
This exhibition is co-located on two sites,
the Hopkins Hall Gallery, at 128 N. Oval Mall on campus, and the OSU
Urban Arts Space.

2010 Arts Scholars Juried Exhibition
February 23rd through June 12th, 2010

The 2010 Arts Scholars Juried Exhibition features work from
high-achieving students in the Arts from all years of study who share a
joint interest in the Arts, including music, visual arts, design,
dance, and theatre. Students major in many areas across campus,
including many non-Arts majors.
Giving students an opportunity to experience the jurying
process and the hanging and promoting of a professional exhibit, this show has traveled, over the past four years, from campus to the
Short North to downtown.
