Artist Talk with SallyB

Tactile Color artist, SallyB discusses the origin of her color-coded fabric images. She will take us through the development of her practice including, fabric selection, color assignment, and the use of batting to designate shading.

Ohio Arts Council Listening Tour

The Ohio Arts Council (OAC) is traveling to several Ohio communities to
discover what creativity means to citizens of small and large
communities across the state. December 10th, the OAC will be in Columbus and they want to hear from you! There are multiple forums for participation:
Morning discussion: For Business and Community Leaders, 8 to 9:30 am at the OSU Urban Arts Space
Afternoon discussion: For Artists, Arts Administrators & Educators, 3:30 to 5 pm at Lincoln Theatre
Evening discussion: Town Hall Meeting - ALL ARE WELCOME! 6 to 7:30pm at the Columbus Metropolitan Library, Main Library Auditorium
All events are free and open to the public.

Join us for a guided tour through two of our current exhibitions:Neighborhood Center of Design and Monuments of Columbus. These
exhibitions are produced by the students, faculty, and collaborators of
the Knowlton School of Architecture at OSU and the Neighborhood Design
Center.

Tuesday, December 14th, 4pm through Wednesday, December 30th, 4pm December Book Club Join us online as we explore audio and visual poetry, available for free on the internet. The OSU Urban Arts Space will be closed from December 19th and
reopen January 5th of 2010. Rather than cancel the club for December,
please share your poetry favorite on our blog, or email your thoughts to uas@osu.edu. The club will meet again on Wednesday, January 24th from noon to 1pm.
Wednesday, December 16th 12 to 1pm Sharing the Experience of Art with the Blind Join Wright State University's Professor Flach and graduate student
Stephanie Auld in a discussion of their research into the work featured
in our current exhibition Tactile Color.
Their study is directed at understanding how those with visual
impairment experience fine art using the B-Code.
Thursday, January 28th 6 to 7:30pm Tactile Color Workshop with SallyB Tactile Color artist SallyB leads a hands-on workshop, demonstrating the process of creating quilted fabric pictures. Participants will learn how to select fabric and make patterns, and will make a basic picture.
Friday, February 26, 2010 5 to 7pm Winter Quarter Artists Reception Join us in celebrating our four Winter exhibitions, including Transitions: The Dresden Project, Photographs by Fredrik Marsh, Art, Documentary, and Propaganda in Wartime China: The Photography of Sha Fei (1912-1950), The American Weigh: Christopher Steele Collection, and the 2010 Arts Scholars Juried Art Exhibition.

Tactile Color October 6th, 2009 through February 6th, 2010 Artist Reception: December 4th, 2009, 5 to 7pm
|
Tactile Color showcases the artwork of SallyB, who creates
touchable fabric interpretations of master works, bringing the
two-dimensional art world directly into the hands of the viewer. The
project began as a way to bring significant artworks to the blind or
those with low vision, but has become a genuine example of universal
design and a wonderful experience for everyone.
On display are several of SallyB's pieces, including
interpretations of Van Gogh, Joan Miró, and Franz Marc. Viewers are
free to explore the works alone or with a guided tour.

The Monuments of Columbus investigates, interprets, and draws the obscure sites that comprise the fringes and fallow grounds of our city. Work
in the exhibition--produced by a community of students, faculty, and
collaborators of the Knowlton School of Architecture at OSU--includes
inventories, mappings, experimental geographies, sonic tours, and
imagined and projected futures for the landscape of Columbus.

Works By Neighborhood Design Center: Proposing New Possibilities November 3rd through December 18th, 2009 Artist Reception: December 4th, 2009, 5 to 7pm

Founded in 1983 as a partnership between the City of Columbus and The
Ohio State University, the Neighborhood Design Center provides planning
and design services to central Ohio neighborhoods and communities.
Under the guidance of professional staff, student interns from the
Knowlton School of Architecture and other university colleges explore
innovative design concepts in order to solve urban problems. This
exhibition showcases the numerous projects that the Design Center has
explored in the past year.

Jaroslav Malina: Paintings and Designs November 17th, 2009 through January 15th, 2010 Artist Reception: December 4th, 2009, 5 to 7pm
|
Recognized as one of the most influential theater designers in the
world, Jaroslav Malina is a pioneer of "action design," using
non-traditional materials and techniques to transform the stage.
This
exhibition features over 100 works of art including his lyrical,
layered paintings along with set-design models and posters from the
mid-1960s to the present. Viewers will also have the opportunity to see
sketches, photography and a video interview of Malina himself.
