Jaroslav Malina: Paintings and Designs Exhibition Tour

Wednesday, December 2nd 1:30 to 2:30pm
Join curator Dr. Joe Brandesky as he discusses many of the works in Jaroslav Malina: Paintings and Designs.
Learn how Malina's work effortlessly transcends the boundaries of
design and art and discover a rich personal and cultural history that
spans over 40 years of art making.
Recognized as one of the most influential theater designers in the
world, Jaroslav Malina is a pioneer of "action design," using
non-traditional materials and techniques to transform the stage.
This
exhibition features more than 65 works of art including his lyrical,
layered paintings along with set-desigs and posters from the
mid-1960s to the present. Viewers will also have the opportunity to see
sketches, photography and a video interview of Malina himself.

Ecobags Workshop Two Sessions

Thursday, December 3rd 5 to 7pm Back by popular demand!
Bring your unwanted disposable plastic shopping bags and transform them into beautiful and sturdy handbags. Artisan Marcia Trakas will work with guests to crochet the bags into masterpieces, keeping them out of the landfill.
This workshop will accommodate both beginner and advanced
participants. Beginners will learn to cut and crochet a small bag,
while more advanced guests will learn to make different bottoms to bags
as well as pockets, handles, and linings. Everyone should bring a crochet hook J-10, scissors, and plastic bags.
Free and open to all, but workshop is limited to 10. Please RSVP to uas@osu.edu.

Thursday, January 28th 6 to 7:30pm Tactile Color Workshop with SallyB Tactile Color artist SallyB leads a hands-on workshop, demonstrating the process of creating quilted fabric pictures. Participants will learn how to select fabric and make patterns, and will make a basic picture.

Tactile Color October 6th, 2009 through February 6th, 2010 Artist Reception: December 4th, 2009, 5 to 7pm
|
Tactile Color showcases the artwork of SallyB, who creates
touchable fabric interpretations of master works, bringing the
two-dimensional art world directly into the hands of the viewer. The
project began as a way to bring significant artworks to the blind or
those with low vision, but has become a genuine example of universal
design and a wonderful experience for everyone.
On display are several of SallyB's pieces, including
interpretations of Van Gogh, Joan Miró, and Franz Marc. Viewers are
free to explore the works alone or with a guided tour.

Monuments of Columbus October 27th through December 12th, 2009 Artist Reception: December 4th, 2009, 5 to 7pm

The Monuments of Columbus investigates, interprets, and draws the obscure sites that comprise the fringes and fallow grounds of our city. Work
in the exhibition--produced by a community of students, faculty, and
collaborators of the Knowlton School of Architecture at OSU--includes
inventories, mappings, experimental geographies, sonic tours, and
imagined and projected futures for the landscape of Columbus.

Works By Neighborhood Design Center: Proposing New Possibilities November 3rd through December 18th, 2009 Artist Reception: December 4th, 2009, 5 to 7pm

Founded in 1983 as a partnership between the City of Columbus and The
Ohio State University, the Neighborhood Design Center provides planning
and design services to central Ohio neighborhoods and communities.
Under the guidance of professional staff, student interns from the
Knowlton School of Architecture and other university colleges explore
innovative design concepts in order to solve urban problems. This
exhibition showcases the numerous projects that the Design Center has
explored in the past year.
