The Monuments of Columbus Exhibition Opening and Artists Reception

Thursday, October 29th 5 to 8pm
The Monuments of Columbus investigates, interprets, and draws the obscure sites that comprise the fringes and fallow grounds of our city. Work
in the exhibition--produced by a community of students, faculty, and
collaborators of the Knowlton School of Architecture at OSU--includes
inventories, mappings, experimental geographies, sonic tours, and
imagined and projected futures for the landscape of Columbus.
Free and open to all. Reception will be hosted in conjunction with a free public screening of F.W. Murnau's Nosferatu.

Nosferatu Screening with Live Sound Track

Thursday, October 29th 6:30 to 8pm
What better way to kick off the Halloween weekend than with a free screening of F. W.
Murnau's Nosferatu? The film will be
accompanied by a live band sound track specifically composed for the
event by Jay Harmon and The Francis Bacon Band.
Free and open to all.
This screening is part of our after-work programming offered Thursday evenings. After the show stop by Tip Top Kitchen & Cocktails and ask for the Urban Artists' Special: It's very special indeed and it's only $3.

Monuments of Columbus Bike Tour

Saturday, October 31st noon
Hop on your bicycle and head to the OSU Urban Arts Space for an 18-mile tour of the in-between "Monuments of Columbus."
The day-long adventure begins at the Space with a brief tour of the
exhibition and ends in the early evening at Tip Top Kitchen and Cocktails.

Taylor, as she reads excerpts from and discusses her critically acclaimed book, Counter Culture: The American Coffee Shop Waitress. The Wall Street Journal calls it "a wonderful read." Thursday, November 12th 5 to 6pm Eco Bags Workshop Bring your unwanted disposable plastic shopping bags and transform them into beautiful and sturdy handbags. Everyone should bring a crochet hook J- 10 , scissors and plastic bags.

Thursday, November 19th 7 to 8pm Marotta Hour: Deb Colvin-Tener This month's Marotta Hour features actor/singer/musician Deb Colvin-Tener.
Colvin-Tener will present a program of songs by German playwright/poet Bertolt Brecht, touching on themes of women's rights, capitalism, poverty, and war.
Friday, December 4th 5 to 7pm Autumn Quarter Artists Reception Join us in celebrating the opening of three of our exhibitions, including Works by Neighborhood Design Center, Jaroslav Malina: Paintings and Designs, The Monuments of Columbus and Tactile Color. Wednesday, December 9th noon to 1pm Artist Talk with SallyB Tactile Color artist SallyB discusses the origin of her color-coded fabric images.
Thursday, January 28th 6 to 7:30pm Tactile Color Workshop with SallyB Tactile Color artist SallyB leads a hands-on workshop, demonstrating the process of creating quilted fabric pictures. Participants will learn how to select fabric and make patterns, and will make a basic picture.

Tactile Color October 6th, 2009 through February 6th, 2010 Artist Reception: December 4th, 2009, 5 to 7pm
|
Tactile Color showcases the artwork of SallyB, who creates
touchable fabric interpretations of master works, bringing the
two-dimensional art world directly into the hands of the viewer. The
project began as a way to bring significant artworks to the blind or
those with low vision, but has become a genuine example of universal
design and a wonderful experience for everyone.
On display are several of SallyB's pieces, including
interpretations of Van Gogh, Joan Miró, and Franz Marc. Viewers are
free to explore the works alone or with a guided tour.

Jaroslav Malina: Paintings and Designs Opens: November 17, 2009 - January 15, 2010 Reception: Friday, December 4th, 2009, 5 to 7pm
|
Recognized as one of the most influential theater designers in the
world, Jaroslav Malina is a pioneer of "action design," using
non-traditional materials and techniques to transform the stage.
This
exhibition features more than 65 works of art including his lyrical,
layered paintings along with set-design models and posters from the
mid-1960s to the present. Viewers will also have the opportunity to see
sketches, photography and a video interview of Malina himself.
