Marotta Hour L.A. Jenkins
|
Thursday, September 17th 7 to 8pm
Stay downtown after work every third Thursday of the month and check
out new sounds curated by local musician and international composer
Larry Marotta. This month we feature the ethereal guitar stylings of Columbus native L.A. Jenkins.
Jenkins has performed with various groups across the U.S., including
collaborations with Tatsuya Nakatani, Tom Abbs, Michael Cary, Gary
Thompson, and Ryan Jewell. In the past year he has released two albums, Man Danced Funny and Inability to Fly (Ice Recoding Company).
"...it delivers a fully formed statement
of purpose. Jenkins has an encyclopedic knowledge of music stored in
his brain and can seemingly call forth phrases and styles at will...This
is quite a find." Of Inability to Fly -Mark Corroto, All About Jazz
Free and open to all. Donations accepted.
This series is part of our after-work programming offered Thursday evenings. Before the show stop by Tip Top Kitchen & Cocktails and ask for the Urban Artists' Special: It's very special indeed and it's only $3.Image courtesy of the curator.

On View f BIGG: Breakthrough Ideas in Global Glass July 10th-October 10th
|
BIGG: Breakthrough Ideas in Global Glass is a dynamic collaboration among The Ohio State University Department of Art's Glass Program, OSU Urban Arts Space and Hawk Galleries. This exhibition is sponsored by Steuben Glass.
Together we will discover and introduce to the public a select group of artists with a conceptual and working engagement in glass. These artists will have completed their formal training in art beyond the baccalaureate (MFA or equivalent) since the beginning of the new millennium. This collaboration demonstrates a commitment to advancing new and innovative glass art worldwide. Through an international juried selection process and critical writing about work in the field, we intend to expand the discourse about glass art globally.
The exhibition will be presented at the OSU Urban Arts Space and Hawk Galleries in downtown Columbus, Ohio. Select works from the BIGG exhibition will travel to SOFA Chicago 2009 on exhibit November 5th through the 8th.

Sometime within the last fifty years, my marks, spills, splatters,
smears, erasures, lucky color choices and precise edges have taken form
as drawing, print, collage, transfer or painting. occasionally they
look, to me, keepable, even exhibitable. shown here as "excerpts" are a
few of them. i'm not always sure how far "too far" to go is. - E.F. Hebner
