Marotta Hour
Matt Davignon

mattdavingnon
Thursday, July 16th
7 to 8pm

Stay downtown after work every third Thursday of the month and check out new sounds curated by local musician and international composer Larry Marotta.

This month we feature Matt Davignon, an experimental/ambient drum-machinist living in Oakland, California. His processed drum machine sounds play with various electronic devices, creating layers of textures, arrhythmic patterns and musical imperfections, with a focus on evoking biological systems. Besides making music, Davignon also co-produces the Luggage Store Gallery Experimental Music series in San Francisco, and has produced odd concerts such as the San Francisco Found Objects Festival and Droneshift.

Free and open to all.

This series is part of our after-work programing offered Thursday evenings. Before the show stop by Tip Top Kitchen & Cocktails and ask for the Urban Artists' Special: It's very special indeed and it's only $3.

BIGG: Breakthrough Ideas in Global Glass

July 10th-October 10th     Reception: July 10th, 5 to 7pm

BIGG
BIGG: Breakthrough Ideas in Global Glass is a dynamic collaboration among The Ohio State University Department of Art's Glass Program, OSU Urban Arts Space and Hawk Galleries. This exhibition is sponsored by Steuben Glass.

Together we will discover and introduce to the public a select group of artists with a conceptual and working engagement in glass. These artists will have completed their formal training in art beyond the baccalaureate (MFA or equivalent) since the beginning of the new millennium. This collaboration demonstrates a commitment to advancing new and innovative glass art worldwide. Through an international juried selection process and critical writing about work in the field, we intend to expand the discourse about glass art globally.

The exhibition will be presented at the OSU Urban Arts Space and Hawk Galleries in downtown Columbus, Ohio. Select works from the BIGG exhibition will travel to SOFA Chicago 2009 on exhibit November 5th through the 8th.

E.F. Hebner | excerpts...2009
July 10th-October 10th     Reception: September 7th, 7 to 9pm

hebner
E.F. Hebner, Professor Emeritus, creates paintings steeped heavily in a personal history of design, painting and performance collaboration.  His work thrives in nimbly balanced color and daring, energetic composition. This exhibition presents excerpts from 50 years of art making.

Sometime within the last fifty years, my marks, spills, splatters, smears, erasures, lucky color choices and precise edges have taken form as drawing, print, collage, transfer or painting. occasionally they look, to me, keepable, even exhibitable. shown here as "excerpts" are a few of them. i'm not always sure how far "too far" to go is.
