Godspell Preview and Discussion Weekday Brown Bag
|
Tuesday, March 10th noon to 1pm Bring your lunch and join us at the OSU Urban Arts Space as director
Mandy Fox previews and discusses her upcoming production of Godspell. Based loosely on the Episcopal Hymnal and The Gospel According to St. Matthew, Godspell
is a whimsical blend of song, dance, mime, charades, vaudeville
routines, and impersonations. This rock musical began as a workshop
production of a graduate student's master's thesis, but with a
delightful and enduring Stephen Schwartz score that includes Day By Day, All Good Gifts, and By My Side, it developed into one of the biggest musical theatre successes of all time.
This preview is part of our weekday programming offered throughout
the month. Locally hand-roasted coffee is generously provided by Cafe Brioso. Bring your lunch and enjoy.

Friday, March 13th 6:30 - 7:30pmOver the past 5 weeks, all ten of OSU's acting MFA students have been working to create site-specific performance work at the OSU Urban Arts Space. Tonight they will perform these works.
The performance works are based on the aesthetic they have put
forth in their manifestos and in response to the gallery. Not only have they created the performances, but also the stage sets which dually function as installations. After the performances
are complete the found-object installations along with the videotaped
manifestos will remain in the space as an exhibit until Friday, April
3rd.
The actors will be creating and rehearsing the pieces
during the UAS normal hours of operation. The general public is invited
to view the rehearsal process.
After the performance visit Tip Top Kitchen & Cocktails and try our very own: Urban Artists' Special. It's very special indeed and its only $3. [Read More] ____________________________________________________________________________________ |

| 2009 Arts Scholars Juried Exhibiton
|
February 4 - April 28
The 2009 Arts Scholars Juried Exhibition
features work from high-achieving students from all years
of study who share a joint interest in the Arts, including music,
visual arts, design, dance, and theatre. Students major in many areas
across campus, including many non-Arts majors. This exhibition gives
students an opportunity to experience the jurying process and the
hanging and promoting of a professional show. Work in both performative and visual forms illustrates the diversity of
skills and creativity among Arts Scholars. Jurors hail from the
university community as well as the greater Columbus community. This
show has traveled, over the past four years, from campus to the Short
North to downtown. Arts Scholars appreciate the support you provide for
the development and expression of their creative interests.

Closing this week Design for Performance: Treasures from the Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee Theatre Research Institute
|
February 17 - March 13
Design for Performance: Treasures from the Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee Theatre Research Institute will
bring the magic of design and technical theatre to the OSU Urban Arts
Space and then to U.S. Institute for Theatre Technology held in
Cincinnati in March 2009. Spanning the late 1800s into the twenty-first
century, the artwork in the exhibition includes professional theatre
design for drama and comedy, musical theatre, opera, dance, and outdoor
spectacle - all for live performance and entertainment. One of the most
exciting aspects of Design for Performance
is the collaboration of Theatre MFA Design Students from the Advanced
Scenic Design class with faculty curators to design an interactive
exhibit space that highlights the exciting and diverse content.
