Focus Community Conversation

Tuesday, October 21st12 to 12:30pm Join OSU Theatre Professor, Alan Woods, as we view and discuss excerpts from documentaries that explore political issues. We will examine the filmmaker's perspective, the response to the
work by critics and audiences, and the effectiveness of the work.
Films
to be explored will include Point of Order (1964), The Murder of
Fred Hampton (1971), Behind the Mask (1991), The War Room (1993), The
Weather Underground (2002), The Fog of War (2003), Fahrenheit 9/11
(2004), Anytown, U.S.A. (2005), among others. This conversation is part of our brown bag series offered around noon throughout the month. Locally hand-roasted coffee is provided by Café Brioso.

Tuesday, November 4th 12:00 to 12:30 pm ReadAloud!: Thurber Talks Politics Thurber House staff, Meg Brown, presents a special
reading of the works of Columbus' native son James Thurber.
Meg will read a few short fables with political undertones as well as a
patriotic poem in celebration
of what promises to be an historic election day. Bring your lunch, sit back, and listen to this lively reading presented in collaboration with the OSU Library's ReadAloud Program.
Thursday, November 6th 5 to 8 pm Artists' Reception Department of Art Faculty Exhibition Thanks to the location and size of the OSU Urban Arts Space, we are able to present the current work of the OSU Department of Art Faculty in one place and at one time for the first time since 1990. Alan Crockett: Mark Making From his earliest figurative narrations to his suggestive
pre-figurations of bountiful color, Alan Crockett has always been a painter's
painter: dedicated to the canvas, to the brush, to the gesture. Special Note: This evening Riffe Gallery celebrates the opening of The Ohio Watercolor Society 31st Annual Exhibit 2008 from 5 to 8. To find out more visit www.riffegallery.org.

Department of Art Faculty Exhibition October 21st through January 10th The
opening of the OSU Urban Arts Space allows the Department of Art for
the first time since 1990 to present the work of its entire faculty in
one space, at one time, together again. Experience the work of all 23
artists: Mary Jo Bole, Carmel Buckley, Malcolm Cochran, Alison
Crocetta, Robert Ladislas Derr, Ann Hamilton, Richard Harned, Rebecca
Harvey, Scot Kaplan, Laura Lisbon, Charles Massey Jr., Tony Mendoza,
Michael Mercil, Ardine Nelson, Ken Rinaldo, Suzanne Silver, Sergio
Soave, Todd Slaughter, John Thrasher, Steve Thurston, Ed Valentine,
Pheoris West, and Amy Youngs. Guest curated by Joe Houston.
Presented simultaneously with CMA's Objects of Wonder from The Ohio State University.
