Dr. Rootes on Immunity
| |
As we all know, the fall and winter months bring an increased frequency of colds and flu. The question you might ask is: why? During this time of year we tend to stay indoors more often, increasing our exposure to circulating bacteria and viruses. We also exercise less, have a limited selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, and gravitate more towards comfort foods like breads and sugars. So, what can you do? 1.)Regular Exercise - this moves our lymphatic system which is our defense against pathogens. 2.)Manage Stress - increased stress stimulates cortisol release which suppresses immune functions. 3.)Sleep - This is your body's time to repair itself from the day's damage. 4.)Diet - Avoid sugar. 1 tbsp of sugar will suppress your immune system up to 80% of its ability for up to 4 hours. Stress Busters for the Mind with Courtney
| | |
All of us go through life with some form of stress. Right? Right! Our added stress is not derived from circumstances themselves but from the stories that we create. We do this sometimes without even knowing. Stress can be "greedy", eating up important resources taking away from our defense system which can make us more prone to illness.
Try this on! The power in de-stressing your life is knowing that the stories we build up in our minds are not real. Let the past be filed in the past and allow yourself to create new possibilities for your future.
How do you let go? First step is to acknowledge that these stories are just stories. This will allow you to create new possibilities that will let you live the life you love. Declare your potential to create this and don't get stuck in your stories.
