As they say, "April showers bring May flowers", but what can you do to keep your equipment safe and dry when you're caught in light rain when out photographing?
I have two favorite picks for camera rain covers:
1)

Shutter Hat Camera Cover

This cover is quick and easy to put on your camera and packs up small.
2)

Kata E-690 Medium Digital SLR Camera Raincover

This cover is a little bulkier than the shutter hat, but it features see through plastic and hand holes that makes it easy to view the LCD and work the camera controls. A larger version for a large digital SLR camera is also available.
Remember lens hoods can also be useful in the rain to keep rain droplets from falling on the front of the lens.
Don't forget to protect your memory cards too. The Gepe Extreme Card Safe is a great investment. It's waterproof and even floats!

Finally, another quick tip is to keep a small piece of chamois cloth (frequently used to dry your car after washing) in a ziploc bag in your camera bag.

So when the sprinkles start falling, don't pack up right away. Use these tips to keep on shooting a while longer. Eliminate the sky from your composition and you'll be surprised at just how rich and saturated landscape and flower colors will be in overcast and light showers conditions. |
