Greetings!
When I meet people and they hear that I am from Reinwald's Bakery there are two questions invariably asked. The first is, "Have you ever dropped a wedding cake?" and the other, "Do you ever get tired of eating your bakery goods?" Yes to the first and never to the second.
March is here and all of us are looking forward to spring. Several harbingers are already evident. It is light out long enough to cook dinner on the grill. Our weeping cherry tree has visible buds beginning to form. Birds are beginning to sing. This year more than ever these signs are most welcome!
Caught up in the spirit, I pulled out my box of shorts and horrors of horrors they were extremely tight. Telling this to several friends, the comments, that I can write, spanned from, "Buy new shorts", "Ha, you must be eating all the leftovers at the bakery!" to "You better go on a diet."
My answers - sort of no to all three. Buying new clothes is not an option and just wasteful. Often I am faced with a favorite treat left over at closing time and usually tell the sales staff to pack it up for one of the food pantries that we donate to before I succumb to the temptation. And as for the last, all of us are on a diet. Your diet is simply defined as - what you eat; as in, "He survived on a diet of fish and seaweed."
At Reinwald's Bakery we preach balance and moderation in your diet and daily life. Obviously my balance got out of whack. I have a diet, what I need is a weight reduction program. Kirk down at Complete Physique on Stewart Ave tells me that my activity level is fine, I am just eating too much. My weight for some years has been 210. Today I tip the scales at 230.
I have always told my children that to execute a plan it must be written down. A plan not on paper is not a plan. Starting today every raspberry krispie, piece of ruggalach, jelly doughnut or elephant ear is going to be recorded. The piece of pure chocolate decoration too small to go on a cake but the perfect size for a taste will be written down. Of course the chicken cutlet or chefs salad will be too. I am not saying that I won't eat that jelly doughnut - I will - but at the end of the day I will know where my calories are coming from. I won't bore you with my daily log but I'll report back with my one month results. My goal is to be 215 lbs by April 5. If you want to help me cut down on the temptation just buy everything in the store every day and I won't have anything to eat (just kidding!).
Before I cracked my notebook for the first time I tried our Sweet Treat Caribbean Lyche Torte. This was really good, a delightful blend of coconut, strawberry and the unique Lychee fruit. This Saturday, March 5 we will be sampling this cake in the form of dessert shots. Come in and try it!
Until then enjoy your days.
Sincerely,
Rich Reinwald Reinwald's Bakery
