Greetings!
In my last letter in early July I complained about the unusual amount of hot days. Little did I know. The hot weather changed many of our plans often part because a day in the bakery left us all more than a bit tired. Hot wether aside we did get a chance to enjoy summer time on Long Island. Carole and I visited a couple of music events in Heckscher Park. Christopher went canoeing on the Nissequogue and others went Kayaking on the waters of the Long Island Sound. We spent some time on our LI golf courses, however I'm not sure if I can rightly call what I did Golf at all. A few nights were spent just strolling through town. On balance I guess we had a positive summer, I hope you did too!
One summer time event Reinwald's Bakery supported was the Huntington Library's Summer Reading Program. I have always enjoyed reading and tried to impart that on my children. I feel that is an essential skill for all children to have in order to succeed. In that vein we awarded two cupcakes for any child completing the Summer Reading Program. Happily we gave away quite a few cupcakes. Kudos to the Huntington Library.
September is officially the month of the cupcake at Reinwald's Bakery. We will be joining CancerCare for Kids in our Cupcakes for a Cause initiative. During the month of September we will be donating 20% of all cupcake sales to the program. What better time to sample our wide variety of flavors and decorative themes. My favorite this year is Grandpa's Carrot Cake, let us know what your favorite is on Facebook! Remember all of our cupcakes are trans-fat free.
My son turned 30 last week and I cooked Barbecue ribs for our celebration dinner. Boy, were they good! Combined with fresh corn and vine ripe LI tomatoes; what a meal. Our party wasn't complete until the birthday cake appeared; we had a simple chocolate cake with fudge. As I saw the smiles around the table it brought me back to his 1st birthday. There is a poster in the bakery of that birthday celebration from 29 years ago. Check it out and let me know which one of my sons you think it is.
The recipe for the ribs follows. Try our Honey Habenero BBQ sauce on the ribs. To all those going back to school, good luck and enjoy. To all parents sending children back to school, also good luck and enjoy. I hope to see you in the bakery soon! .
Sincerely, Rich Reinwald Reinwald's Bakery

Barbecue Ribs
These ribs were such a big hit at my son's 30th birthday celebration that I felt compelled to share the recipe with all you! Ingredients:
1 Onion 2 Cloves of Garlic 2 cups Chicken Broth Salt & Pepper BBQ sauce (Preferably Reinwald's Honey Habenero) 2 Full racks of ribs
Preparation is pretty simple. Start by adding your ribs, onion garlic, salt & pepper and broth to a large pot. Add water to fully submerge the ribs. Boil for 10 to 15 minutes. While they are boiling start your grill on a low flame.
Take the par boiled ribs to the grill. The key is low and slow. Cook for about a half hour on low. Intermittently brush with BBQ sauce. Remove from grill and let sit for 5 to 10 minutes before serving. |
