Greetings!
The last few weeks of June have been very warm and uncomfortable and that has made it very difficult to collect my thoughts for this letter. Carole stuck her head into the dining room and said, "whatever you are writing, it better not be political. Leave politics out of it!"
As most of you know I am a big fan of Huntington and I love living here. I am also a big fan of the United States of America. Over the past few years I have been able to visit some far away places including Peru, South Africa, Argentina and Russia. These travels have really hammered home how truly blessed we are in this country. I can't help but think of the saying, "There except for the grace of God go I."
This week, we celebrate the 4th of July, Independence Day. By it's very definition it is a celebration of some ordinary and some extraordinary men being political. Together these men of the continental congress created the "great experiment", not based on monarchy or religion, but the will of the people.
This 4th of July let's remember where we came from. We have a responsibility to our heritage and to those who will follow us to be political. Be knowledgeable, seek opinions, be active & voice your concerns.
A while back on the Huntington Village Green there was a group with signs saying, "Fire Congress" and "Impeach Obama". I had to stop and ask, "What are you doing? Are you advocating a coup d'etat?" Their answer was, "but these people are ruining our country!" Even though the group stopped listening to me I said, "Bring your information and opinions to the people so they can go to the ballot box with a wider perspective." So there you have it, if that was political then I am guilty.
As you enjoy this holiday, hopefully with a glass of our homemade lemonade (recipe below) and some of Reinwald's fresh baked goods, please have some political thoughts that truly commemorate the United States of America's independence.
Thank you for listening to me and please enjoy your days,
Sincerely, Rich Reinwald Reinwald's Bakery
P.S. - This Sunday Carole Reinwald as a member of the Senior Pops Orchestra will be playing a concert in Heckscher Park at 8pm. We would love to see you there for a selection of patriotic and other popular songs.

Reinwald's Home Made Lemonade Here's a blast from the past that is simple and delicious. If you have never made your own lemonade, you absolutely must taste the difference that freshly squeezed lemons make. Plus you are using natural sugar not high fructose corn syrup.
Ingredients:
1 cup of sugar 1 cup of water 1 cup of lemon juice (about 6 lemons) Zest of one lemon 4 cups of ice water
Bring 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar and zest of one lemon to a boil to create a simple syrup. Add the juice of six lemons and 4 cups of ice water to a 2 quart pitcher. Stir in the simple syrup to the desired sweetness. Chill for an hour and serve with ice and a lemon wedge. Ahhh, Refreshing!
