Greetings!
As a community based retail bakery I don't like being
compared to the cigarette companies. It seems that is what is happening. While
waiting for an appointment I was disturbed by one of these doctor/self help
programs on the waiting room television. They had four people on that had lost
over 100 pounds each. In front of them was a table with cakes, cookies and
doughnuts. The host pointed at the table and said, "This is poison, you can't
eat this stuff. This represents health problems waiting to happen." How would
you like being told that your passion is a poison? My mother in law is a diabetic. She read that grapes are
very good for you and are easily absorbed into the blood stream for diabetics.
She started eating two pounds a week. When I pointed out that she seems to be
eating a lot of grapes her reply was, "grapes are good for you." My answer was,
"yes, but not two pounds!" I think the same can be said for baked goods, ice cream,
spinach or fish. If you eat too much of any one thing it can't be good for you.
A dozen doughnuts a week - what are you
thinking! Although a doughnut and a relaxing cup of coffee adds quality to
your day and probably years onto your life. In case you couldn't guess from our name the Reinwald family
is of German cultural background. A Bratwurst, nice piece of rye bread and a
cold beer brings me back to picnics at Throgs Neck Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Soccer games, tales of the old country and camaraderie, of course all spoken in
German, were the order of the day. Now we are told such foods should be banned.
If I eat a dozen Bratwurst a week - what
am I thinking? But an occasional Bratwurst brings me back to a happy place
and I doubt I will keel over and die! Hot dogs and 4th of July are synonymous; soon not
to be if the food police get their way. If the power's that be want to see
Americans live longer I think we should all encourage each other to do four
things:
1. Eat in
moderation 2. Exercise
more 3. Shut
off the TV and exercise our minds 4. Create
ways to find a little joy each day Reinwald's Bakery is all about freshness and good taste.
Fresh means we don't add stuff to make products last longer. Everything is
produced right here in Huntington
so you are probably enjoying our baked goods within hours of it coming from our
ovens. Fresh always tastes better and taste is of the utmost
importance to us. If a little extra butter enhances the flavor we feel it is
worth a few extra calories. The Reinwald's Bakery taste means that you will
enjoy your dessert and more likely your day also. Check out our family recipe for a quick meal and this
month's Sweet Treat Rewards Specials which include whole wheat buttermilk
scones. The savory Blue Cheese & Walnut version will be a great
accompaniment to our recipe. Thanks again for listening to me and please enjoy your days,
Sincerely, Rich Reinwald Reinwald's Bakery |
