Hiking Trails right here on Long Island
When you ask out of state people about New York they almost always associate us with big city living. They rarely recognize that New York has some of the most beautiful landscapes around. Although Long Island does not have any great mountains or rivers there are still places to go that allow you to connect with nature and get some exercise all while enjoying the beautiful scenery. Make sure you bring along a snack, maybe some Oatmeal Cranberry cookies.
Growing up my parents had a summer house out east in Ridge, right next to the pine barrens. This expansive nature preserve has about 50 miles of trails that you could spend all day exploring. For information on entry points please call the Department of Environmental Conservation at (631) 444-0273.
If you are looking to stay a little closer to home Huntington has an 8 mile trail running through West Hills County Park. The Walt Whitman trail includes Jayne Hill, the highest point on Long Island. You can park at the county park entrance off Sweet Hollow Road.

Fresh fruit cakes are finally here...
Although it hasn't felt like it, summer is well underway. The perfect reminder is our fresh fruit cakes. Here at the bakery we wait for the fruit to be just right before we put it into our fresh baked crust. Blueberry and peach cakes have been flying out of the showcase, however it is not quite time for our famous plum cakes.
Our blueberry cake has blueberry pie filling and is piled high with fresh blueberries then dusted with powdered sugar. Did you know that blueberries contain tons of vitamin c, dietary fiber as well as antioxidants.
Nothing says summer more than the sweet juices of peaches running down your cheek. Our fresh peach cake is a buttery crust with freshly cut peaches baked inside then topped with a sweet fruit glaze.
Enjoy the tastes of summer!
