Reinwald's Bakery Logo
 Greetings!

I can't believe that it is the end of August. It really is a time of transition. First the weather begins to change. We still have some nice hot days but very often the nights can be quite cool if you are dressed for the heat of the day. Try taking an evening walk and you have the perfect excuse to hold someone close to you.

Another transition we make is from vacation and admittedly the lazy days of summer to the regular pace of our lives. Kids are in school. The roads are busier again and it seems work becomes more intense. I make my resolutions for the next months now, not in January. This may seem odd but to me there is a bigger natural break in routine than in December. This break in routine also happens in the bakery. Why not stop in and look for some new items to change it up a bit.

The end of summer signals that the fresh fruits are on the wane. Be sure to enjoy the last of the fresh peach cakes and what our family considers really special, the fresh plum cake or as the call it in Bavaria, zwetschgen Kuchen.

Last, Labor Day is early this year, September 1. Did you know the first Labor day was in New York City in 1882 but it was Oregon that was the first legislature making it an official holiday in 1887. It took the U.S. Congress another seven years to make it a national holiday in 1894. Some things never change.

Have a good Labor Day Holiday and we hope you have the opportunity to get outside!

Sincerely,
Rich Reinwald

Fresh Plum Cake

Plum Cake

Plum Dumplings have been a family tradition for many years. It always put a smile on Nana's face to watch her children enjoy this sweet treat, and her grand children after that, even her great grandchildren got to taste her homemade dumplings. I suppose simple pleasures such as this are the key to living to nearly 100.

Fresh fruit is essential to summer. There is just something about spitting watermelon seeds or having a sticky chin from a juicy peach or plum that will put a smile on your face. It is this image coupled with Nana's recipe that inspires our fresh plum cake. With a delicious cookie bottom filled with sweet plums from Oregon topped with an apricot glaze this cake let's you know that summer is not quite over yet!

Come in and enjoy fresh Plum and Peach cakes until Labor Day!

Grilled Pork Tenderloin

This recipe is a great excuse to eat outside. Grab some fresh Long Island corn, use the grilled eggplant recipe from the previous edition as a side dish and enjoy!

Reinwald's Bakery

Drizzle some olive oil on the tenderloin then rub on some finely chopped garlic, coarse black pepper and kosher salt.

Grill on medium heat for about 10 minutes on each side. A little pink on the inside is good however if you are using a thermometer 130 degrees internal temperature is what you are looking for. Let the meat sit for 5 minutes before you slice it.

This a great low fat dinner choice that is a good value both nutritionally and financially. Remember to keep your portion size down; this way you can also enjoy a little dessert!

Beaches of Huntington

As days get shorter and the excitement of summer time dwindles you can't help but think of colder days. Soon the leaves will be turning and the Holiday hustle and bustle will be upon us. The next few weeks are your last chance to take advantage of warm summer days. Take this opportunity to feel the warm sand between your toes for the last time this year and the best part is you don't have to go very far!
