Partnering with HR
For those who conduct corporate training, it's important to establish a relationship with HR since they are often the gatekeeper and decision maker for introducing these programs into their companies. According to Sharon Armstrong, HR Consultant/Trainer/Career Coach, "From an HR point of view, accent modification and presentation training can be a valuable resource to our growing diverse workplaces. We want to help each employee grow and develop and create environments that will help them succeed. This is an excellent investment for any company."
When choosing a trainer for accent modification, HR managers should consider that they:
- Don't have the time or skills to help the employees themselves
- Need to identify experienced and specialized trainers
- Should offer a service that will help valued employees advance
- Identify someone with a proven track record of success

Tip of the Month- Syllable Reductions in English
In English, many words with three or more syllables are "reduced" by eliminating the syllable with the weakest stress so that the word flows more smoothly and naturally. The pronunciation may vary in different regions of the United States. The following are some typical examples. The letters in parentheses are not always pronounced. We have found that this often occurs with unstressed syllables containing the /r/ sound.
lab(o)ratory ev(e)ry fav(o)rite
veg(e)table basic(a)lly comf(or)table
bus(i)ness We(d)n(e)sday temp(e)rature
Please let us know if you have any other RULES about syllable reductions and we will publish it in our next newsletter. Anyone with new RULES that are not in our books will receive a 15% discount on their future book order! |
