Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Hello! We hope that everyone is well-rested, and full of energy for a new year of exciting professional opportunities. |
Tip of the Month - Soft Skills
According to Wikipedia, "soft skills" is a sociological term relating to a person's EQ, or emotional intelligence quotient. It encompasses a variety of skills and personality characteristics including communication, manners, and language that influence our interpersonal relationships. Many employers acknowledge that effective soft skills, in addition to task-specific occupational skills, are vital to professional success. |
Resources for Business Soft Skills
Often our native and non-native professional clients are looking for additional ways to improve their "executive presence." If you are looking for similar resources, Gretchen Neels has launched a new program, The Elegant Executive. You can sign up for a free newsletter with monthly tips on how to "look the part," including style tips and strategies for effective networking. Go to www.neelscompany.com for more information. Many trainers/teachers and students/clients ask for information on professional image. Another great resource for image consulting and a variety of other related areas is Dressing Well, by Mary Lou Andre. Visit her website at www.dressingwell.com for fashion tips and much more.
It has been our experience that clients often receive recognition and/or promotions after completing an accent course. This is wonderful, but it often presents a new set of communication challenges as roles and responsibilities increase. Roberta Chinsky Matuson's forthcoming book, Suddenly in Charge: Managing up, Managing Down, Succeeding All Around, discusses the importance of fine-tuning communication skills, particularly influencing skills. Effective influencing involves clearly articulating what you need in a manner that shows the other person why it is in their best interest to comply with your request. Obviously, these types of skills are critical for effective business. For more information and to sign up for the free newsletter, go to: www.yourhrexperts.com |
