Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Hello, everyone!  We hope that you all enjoyed a wonderful summer. Fall is approaching quickly as many of us return to our school schedules. We wish you all a productive and busy fall!
RULES Tip of the Season
Med Speaking book

Heteronyms are words pairs that are spelled the same way (homographs) but differ by part of speech (noun/adjective vs. verb), word meaning, and pronunciation stress patterns.

Two syllable words:  If the word is a noun, the first syllable is stressed (higher, louder, longer), e.g., contract.  If the word is a verb, the second syllable is stressed, e.g., contract.

Three syllable words: Both nouns and verbs stress the first syllable. The verbs have primary stress on the first syllable, secondary stress on the third syllable and weak stress on the second syllable, e.g.,  graduate. Nouns or adjectives have primary stress on the first syllable, with short, unstressed second and third syllables, often changing the pronunciation of the last syllable, e.g., grad-u-it.

Coming this Fall

We are excited to announce the release of RULES by the Sound. This adaptable and flexible program offers you the ability to download and print sound-loaded sentences and paragraphs. Some of these stories evolved from the Medically Speaking RULES program and as a result of the excellent feedback we received from our clients, we have added stories to cover all of the consonants, vowels, diphthongs, and r-colored vowels. These stories can be used for independent assignments, individual and group work, etc. The electronic version can even be emailed to students/clients. We will have a workbook and a CD so all of the stories can be printed or emailed to students/clients.

Look for our release date this fall. We are offering a pre-release special on RULES by the Sound.  If you order before November 15th, you will receive a 20% discount. We will keep you posted on this wonderful, new product which has revolutionized our pronunciation training!
