Hello Friends and Colleagues,
We hope you are enjoying the early days of summer.
We're so appreciative of the educational perspectives of our TESOL colleagues. We both attended the 2009 TESOL Academy in Charleston, SC on June 19-20. For those of you complaining of incessant rain and chilly temperatures, our reprieve was 99 degrees of sweltering heat and humidity! However, we learned excellent classroom strategies and obtained resources from our workshop led by Rob Jenkins, the professional development coordinator for continuing education at Santa Ana College, entitled "Use the TESOL Standard for ESL-EFL Teachers of Adults to Develop a Personal Professional Development Plan."
We learned effective tips for transitions from corporate training to classroom educational settings. These included implementing SMART objectives (Specific Measurable Achievable Relevant Time-Related) and incorporating cooperative/student-oriented activities.
