RULES: Tip of the Month
Sentence Level Stress Patterns:
We typically stress the last important word in a sentence,
such as nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs. We rarely stress "function" words such as pronouns, conjunctions, prepositions, articles, etc. Of course, for emphasis and to highlight meaning in context, you may stress whatever you like.
Remember, extremes of stress may sound unnatural and awkward, and minimal use of stress may sound boring or disinterested. Try to stress one word in a thought group to clarify the intended meaning of the sentence. |
