''Gossip is mischievous, light and easy to raise, but grievous to bear and hard to get rid of.'' ~Hesiod (700 B.C.)

I
may not own a TV but I do frequent Facebook. The other night, it was
the Golden Globes. People were commenting on Facebook throughout the
show, commenting on how fat so-and-so looked, how bad so-and-so's
outfit was, how skinny so-and-so's arms were..it was pretty horrible. Everyone sounded so...unhappy.
Then, on a friend's wall,
there was a loud 'debate' raging about Israel and Palestine,
with lots of insults and nastiness from both sides.
I adhere to the Tibetan Buddhist principles of karma and emptiness. Thus, the violence I perceive in MY world (and everyone's world is different) is a direct reflection of my past thoughts, words and actions towards others, and nothing other than that. So, I must have once been quite a bitch.
If I expect my world to change, I must first change myself. Bitchiness be gone!
People 'critiquing' and 'debating' via FB puts the exact karmic causes into play to perceive further violence in our world. It's not harmless banter.
Any thought tainted with anger, resentment, jealousy or bitterness only creates the causes for further suffering. As Master Gandhi said, "Become the change you wish to see in the world." In other words, if you want peace, be peace. If you want love, love.
Our first Pure World Meditation was a huge success, with over 45 people. Please come. Its way more satisfying that Face book. Click below for details.
