Greetings!

 

Today, June 17, 2011, we are having a soft, nourishing rain which allows plants to flourish and ourselves to find some much needed inside time.  This morning I was on the radio show Natural Instincts which meets each Friday at 10AM on WBTN with Drs, Carol Tunney and John Hearst talking about YOGA.

 

Inside this newsletter you will find THE SCHEDULE,

some reflection on the life and gifts of Alice McGovern, and notice of the Alice McGovern scholarship fund initiated by one of her students.

 

Alice's passing has certainly reminded us of the absolute sweetness of live. Please remember to keep coming back to yourself, to this breath in, this breath out, to savor every moment, even the ones we spit out.......because first we have to taste them.

 

You are the teachers, join us in the lessons.

Teacher, friend, mom, mentor, RN, health educator and so much more.

Rather than repeat Alice's obituary here, I will simply post from her refrigerator, via her memorial service

 

   The Ten Secrets About Life

  

1)  Everything you need to be happy is inside of you.

2)  The purpose of life is to grow into the best human being you can be.

3)  Change is inevitable, so stop resisting and surrender to life's flow.

4)  All obstacles are lessons in disguise.

5)  Your mind creates your experiences.

6)  Fear will steal your aliveness.  Make your courage bigger than your fear.

7)  You must love yourself before you can really give love or receive love from anyone else.

8)  All relationships are your mirrors, and all people are your teachers.

9)  True freedom comes from how you respond to life, and not from what life does to you.

10) Whatever the question, LOVE is the answer.  

 

Alice's final gifts were her movement into serenity and her wisdom at, as she put it, taking the journey of dying.  She chose a good death, asked us to pray for her to have a good death and she did.  She showed us that death IS a transition into awe, that there is no need to be afraid.  Alice said, "I put my affairs in the care of goodness, love and wisdom."  Let us all do the same.  Thank you Alice.

Alice McGovern Yoga Scholarship Program

A student of Alice asked if she might make a donation to The Yoga Place in Alice's memory and out of that grew the idea of the Alice McGovern Yoga Scholarship Program. 

The purpose is simply to support people who want to take yoga in being able to do that if they have financial constraints.

 

It has always been the goal of the Yoga Place to make yoga available to any and all.  We never want anything to be an impediment to you taking yoga. So deepest thanks to those who have donated to this fund. We bow to you.
