BALI REVISITED | |
what is possible? The Balinese have a core belief that it is a responsibility of the individual to come into balance and to remain in balance. That when, one is in balance, then relations with others will be harmonious and that we have that same responsibility to be in harmonious relation to each other and thus to our communities and to nature. That when we are in right relation to ourselves, our community, our intimates, then our world will be in balance. The Balinese hold the spiritual life first, feeling that when that is attended to, then all else will naturally fall into place. Their religion is built on an animist tradition and incorporates Buddhism and Hinduism, reflecting their tendency to be inclusive. We were fortunate to be included in several of their communities and to be invited into many many healing ceremonies where we as well as Balinese were healed at the multiple levels that healing always must take place. In Bali much healing involves water: being drenched in flowers and water, receiving blessings sprayed from flowers dipped in water, being dunked in a jungle pool, simply standing in the torrential rain open to receive all that is possible. Having the fresh sweet juice of young coconuts poured over you. The question arises, what is possible? How much are we limiting ourselves, when the actual possibilities are limitless?I say, join the gods and the Balinese, let the world unfold inside and outside in wonder and joy.joy to the world!

Laughter is really the best medicine Chocolate may run a close second a recipe for the very dangerous 5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE4 tablespoons flour 4 tablespoons sugar 2 tablespoons cocoa 1 egg 3 tablespoons milk 3 tablespoons oil 3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional) A small splash of vanilla extract 1 large coffee mug (MicroSafe) Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well... Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.. Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts. The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed! Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired. EAT ! LAUGH!(this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous). Never forget to share with your friends and family. Courtesy Tom Bogdan thank you Tom

Greetings!
Yoga is one of the greatest gifts of health and well-being that you can give. Consider giving someone you love a yoga class, with a yoga mat, a gift certificate, or bring a friend to a yoga class and pay her or his way. Yoga is turning out to be an excellent way for families to spend time together. RELAX!
2010 is coming to conclusion. Each year seems to bring new challenge. Sometimes we're able to perceive them as opportunities and we invite transition. Sometimes we are more overwhelmed and simply pray to be able to hold on through the flood. Whatever the nature of change, it is a sure bet that it will come and with it, the possibility of transformation. Dive in. Enjoy the torrent. When the rain stops, the clouds clear and we see the sparkling freshness that often is hiding just below the surface. Inside this newsletter you will find our schedule for JANUARY 3, - Feb. 27, 2011 (8 weeks). READ IT CAREFULLY. We welcome Bethany Boulger who will be teaching new classes on Friday evening and Tracey Forest who will be expanding her schedule to include Tuesday morning at 830AM. Jane Schaeffer will continue with the Thursday morning 1030AM class along with her other classes. Ali Wassick's Wednesday evening class will begin a bit later at 615 which allows her time to get home from teaching skiing at Stratton Mountain. You will find a bit on my trip to Bali, a recipe for chocolate cup cake :), some information about Bethany, owner of Green Mountain Oasis and the other teachers. Which reminds me that many of our staff are accomplished massage therapists, some working out of the studio or at other venues. Bethany offers massage in many modalities through the Oasis. Donna Myers, 442-8560, offers Thai massage at your home or at The Yoga Place. Alice McGovern, 442-6676 offers Foot Reflexology. They all offer gift certificates as does the Yoga Place. Best love to you all Happy Holidays and may we all find peace in the New Year. Jane and the Yoga Place Teaching Group

TEACHER NEWS and gratitude
| Welcome Bethany!
We are delighted to include Bethany in our teaching group. Bethany Boulger began her yoga practice 4 years ago during a transitional period in her life. She found yoga to be inspirational and grounding during a time of difficulty. Since then yoga has provided a path to living and creating an authentic life of love, joy and gratitude. Her classes focus on uniting your breath with movement, encouraging your body, and life, to flow through its own natural rhythm. She brings a fresh, fun perspective to her classes which are offered from the heart. You will sweat and smile! Bethany is a practicing massage therapist of 10 years, owner of Green Mountain Oasis day spa, and specializes in Thai Massage. She is also a lover of nature, traveling, photography and learning. Bethany will be teaching Vinyasa Flow Yoga on Friday evenings at 5PM (inspired by Siva Rea) and Restorative Yoga on Fridays evenings at 645PM. Restorative Yoga: During this class you will melt into soothing, well-supported poses that bring the body, mind and spirit into greater balance. Using props such as bolsters and blankets we will create a completely supportive environment for total relaxation. Restorative poses have the ability to leave you nourished and well rested, offering you the opportunity to linger quietly in the simple sweetness of life. To deepen your experience, Thai Massage is sprinkled into each pose, making this class the perfect balance for any busy lifestyle.
Thank you Tracy for the joy you bring to teaching and to your classes and to KIRTAN! Tracy is also the co-founder and director of SPIRIT HOLLOW, a nature based spiritual center interested in transformation from the personal to the interplanetary! And that not being enough, she is a mom, teaches at Southern Vermont college and is part of a singing group, DEVI. Tracey can be reached by email or at 447-3895. Tracey will continue her Sunday morning Vinyasa class and adds Tuesdays at 830AM.
Thank You Alice for subbing while I was away and for your ongoing support of The Yoga Place. Along with being an RN, teaching through the hospital and teaching cancer survivors, Alice McGovern has a full time practice in Foot Reflexology. FOOT REFLEXOLOGY is an ancient healing modality based on the principle that there are areas or reflex points on the feet and hands that correspond to each organ, gland and body structure. Foot Reflexology is said to reduce stress, promote deep relaxation, cleanse the body of toxins, improve nerve functioning, circulation and lymphatic flow and encourage balance in the body, mind and spirit. For appointments phone Alice at 442-6676. She is offering a 10% discount if you are a yoga student until Jan. 1, 2010.
Thank You Donna for subbing and watching over the studio while I was away. Donna Myers has decided to dive into a new project and this past fall enrolled full time in a Master's Degree Program at Antioch New-England in Keene, NH. We already know she is brilliant and love her classes. Besides being a full time homemaker and mom, she also works doing Thai Massage Therapy and offers private yoga lessons. Call her for more information and to make an appointment at 442-8560. Donna Teaches Tues evenings at 545 and Thursdays at 6pm
Thank you Ali for subbing for me and covering my classes while I was away. Ali Wassick is an accomplished horsewoman, has done volunteer work at an elephant sanctuary in Thailand and while there decided to learn Thai massage. She currently teaches skiing at Stratton, offers a class at the Yoga Place and also offers Thai Massage. You can reach her at (802)558-7764. Ali's Weds class will begin at 615PM.
Thank you Carol Steinmetz for always stepping up and offering to sub when I'm on the move and for being so consistent and loving through the years you've been teaching a Friday morning class at the Yoga Place. We love your cool and persistent Anusara style of teaching! Carol moved to Vermont last year from Williamstown and we are happy to have her among us. She also teaches classes in Williamstown and some far distant corners of Berlin, NY. She can be reached at (802)949-7006. Friday Morning 1030AM Carol can be found at The Yoga Place.
Thank you Donna Menneto! Donna has a background as a medical business practice manager and has been invaluable in offering support and sensible ideas to my rather scattershot approach. Donna is a mom also and teaches Pilates at the Yoga Place 4 mornings a week as well as at other places. You can phone her at 379-9603 or see her sweet person, in person, at The Yoga Place, Mon, Weds, Fri 830AM and Sat at 9AM.
