MARCH 25, 2009
Greetings!

Hello dearest ones.

This is being the long cold white winter.  How fortunate we are to have a warm soothing yoga studio.  To bend and stretch and unwind inside when the outside is so, well really, so Vermont!
Enclosed you will find the newest schedule which will run from Sunday March 29 through Saturday June 28th, 2009.  It is a 13 week schedule.
The only change right now will be Tracey Forest offering a simple lunch hour yoga class on Wednesdays at noon.  This one hour class is designed for the person who needs to get some yoga in but has kids or needs more than one class per week or ...................really any reason you can find.
Donna Menneto continues to offer Pilates 3 mornings a week!  We are so lucky to have a core strengthening class right at our fingertips!  Try Donna's class.  You will learn all that there is to know and FEEL about strengthening your core, about 6 pack abs, about beautiful alignment.
We are able to offer yoga 6 mornings a week now and on three evenings and one afternoon.  And now we are adding a noontime class.  We also are expanding our private lessons, so please call if you have any questions or needs for other times.
By the time you are receiving this email, I should be in Bali.  My itchy feet are at it again!  I am spending some time with friends and also will be visiting various esoteric and natural healers on the island.  Bathing in the graceful atmosphere of Bali will be healing.  I hope to bring back some of that grace, some sweetness, some healed body and spirit, and who knows what other kinds of interesting or curious ideas and maybe even things
May you all be well in body, in mind, in spirit.  May you deeply enjoy the grace that yoga bestows.
Swami Kripalu used to always end his public discourses with a blessing such as the one that follows:
May everyone reading this be happy.
May everyone reading this be healthy.
May everyone here be prosperous.
May no one be the least little bit unhappy at all.
My auspicious blessing to you all.

Sincerely,

Jane Schaeffer

"If you take yoga, you will feel good"  Brandy Reynolds

Almost all Americans are experiencing some confusion or disturbance or even worse:  financial distress, loss of home, loss of job, loss of prospects.  This can result in stress.  Your doctor or your spiritual advisor will tell you that stress lodges in the body in the form of tension.  It may be tension in the back or tension in the shoulders or in the legs or elsewhere.  Tension can lodge anywhere.  When it does, adrenaline and cortisol are released into the bloodstream resulting in the entire body (actually every single cell in the body) being flooded with these chemicals.  Over time this flooding can result in physical pain, discomfort or illness.

Yoga can help.  One of our slogans is:  "If you take yoga, you will feel good."

This morning, knowing I would be drafting this newletter, I asked my friend Steve what I should write about.  He's been taking yoga for about 6 months now and he said:  "Write about how yoga turned a brick into a gumby."
Yes.  Yoga will help your body feel better, more flexible and more competent, more balanced and more stable.  This will of course help your brain to settle, help your mind to become more peaceful.  When the mind is more peaceful and serene, then the adrenaline subsides, the cortisol recedes, the body relaxes.
How does it work?  Very well thank you.  What happens on the yoga mat, is that we practice relaxing.  We practice taking a yoga pose, asana (the Sanskrit word for yoga posture - means steady and sure)and breathing with whatever arises in our consciousness.  Its a slightly unusual practice:  We do not grasp onto good sensation, nor fight off bad sensation.  We simply breathe with whatever arises.
This is good practice for living life off the yoga mat!  In regular life we are asked to take "poses" e.g. on our job, we're called to be in the "pose" of "boss" or "worker", or at home we're called to be "the father" or the "dishwasher" or, you get the idea.  These are our life "poses" and just like on the yoga mat, we are asked to hold them for a bit and to breathe into them.  If you can learn to relax into your situation on the yoga mat, well, then:  You will be able to relax into difficult situations in your life!
However.  This will probably NOT occur after one yoga class.  Someone mentioned this to me the other day, stating that she had always tried one yoga class here and there but never actually signed up for a sequence of classes.  And she wanted me to tell you all that you MUST try more than one class and that if you do, YOU WILL FEEL GOOD.  Try yoga.  All of us at The Yoga Place feel so grateful to be in a position to pass on that which we have received from our teachers.  We feel good.  We want you to feel good too.
