I'm Watching You

"And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever." John 14:16 (NKJV)
How comforting it is to sit with a group and knit or crochet, or scrapbook or sew, or whatever. In a group situation these fun activities are even more fun, leading to relaxation, conversation, laughter, and sharing.
The Knitting Bible Study is a time to share, laugh, get creative with stitch patterns and ideas.  It is a time to learn from each other.
In my Bible the section title at Titus 2 is "What Must Be Taught to Various Groups". So my mind wandered and I wondered, what must be taught in a Knitting Bible Study gathering.  Verses 3-5 gave me the answer:  "teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God." Verse2 11-12 continues "For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age."

When you are in a group situation, even if you do not lead the discussion, your presence, your life, is a teaching tool to all around you. If you sit alongside someone demonstrating a stitch, guiding them through the threading of the yarn over and around the hook or needle you are teaching. If you sit there quietly, never joining in the conversation you are teaching. If you work on your latest project and talk about how unhappy you are with your family or work, you are teaching.

You are being watched every day. Your life is a walking testimony of Jesus Christ. If someone observed you on a daily basis (and you are being observed. By family, neighbors, friends, co-workers, etc) would they see you or would they see Christ? No matter who you are, you are the best Christian that somebody knows.

Fortunately we are not left alone to live this life. We have been offered "another Helper, that He may abide with you forever" (John 14:16).  We are told in Acts 5:32 "We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey Him".  Who received the Helper, the Holy Spirit?  Those who obey God.  David exclaimed in Psalm 54:4 "Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me."  We are not alone. "I am with you always, to the end of the age" Jesus promises us in Matthew 28:20.

I love the song by Ray Boltz titled "Thank You."  If you haven't heard it find a recording of it.  A person jut arriving in heaven is approached by many people whose lives he touched without even knowing it.  He was being watched by others, and his walk helped lead them.

So even if you are not leading the classes or teaching others to knit or crochet, you are teaching. The question and topic for discussion today is, what are you teaching?
