"Let your conversation be always full grace" Colossians 4:6
There is a phrase we would sing as kids, "sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me". But words do hurt, don't they?
When you gather with your knit/crochet friends, in what direction does the conversation go? Is it good and pleasing and perfect? Is there a lot of laughter from life events or from putting down others? Do you tend to discuss kids and husbands as life treasures or life mistakes?
We all need conversation. We need the fellowship and community of each other. These should be edifying to the participants. The Bible gives us some guidelines for our conversations. "Let your conversation be always full grace" says Colossians 4:6. Remember, says Psalms 55:14 "God is a third party to our conversation".
We must be conscious of the words we share with each other. "Gossip gets people in trouble, good (appropriate) conversation keeps them out of it" Provers 12:13.
Be mindful of the conversation you share at your next knitting gathering. Is it uplifting? Does it glorify the Lord? Would you be embarrassed by the conversation if He walked in and sat down beside you? "Be gracious in your speech. The goal is to bring out the best in others in a conversation, not put them down, nor cut them out" is how the Message version translates Colossians 4:6. So keep on knitting or crocheting, being aware of your words and happy stitching !
