Knitting Tip of the Month
When working with a large project, place markers evenly across the row. This will help maintain the proper number of stitches and make it easier to locate where stitch errors may have occurred.

Welcome to the second issue of "Knit In Prayer".  Here we will bring you scripture, stories, knit tips and ideas each month.

Be Still and knit

Be still before the Lord.     Psalm 37:7

One of the comments made at our recent knitting class was "this is supposed to be relaxing??".  I just received a newsletter from "Creative Knitting Magazine" with some information that sounded interesting. A study by the Harvard Medical School Mind/Body Institute showed that when knitting (or crocheting) a person's heart rate and blood pressure can drop. They found that the repetitive action is calming and encourages a relaxed state of mind as well as boosts ego. This then can easily incorporate with prayer and meditation.  For myself, I use this time for force myself to be still.  I can sit quietly and talk with God while stitching.

Like learning anything else, the first few times you try casting on, knitting, or any new style you will have to rip out and start over. Beginning a Bible Study is similar. You start reading and then forget and get behind. That's OK. Keep trying , start over and don't be afraid to ask questions or for help. But most importantly, relax and enjoy.  Both the knitting and the study.
