Thought For The Day
The Extra Mile
I wanted to recognize someone today who has worked diligently as my partner, best friend and spouse.

David Bittner:

David works a fulltime job for Streich Equipment and travels all week long.  We communicate via telephone numerous times daily and he is out there marketing our business at every turn.  He found shipping boxes for us in the fox valley and is bringing them home with him so we will save fuel and shipping and handling fees.  He has pockets full of our business cards and gives one to everyone he meets.  If givers gain than my partner, best friend and husband will gain much in his travels.  He has really gone above and beyond for our business venture and I want to sing his praises today as I recognize his efforts. He works day and night on our business when he is home and
promotes us when he is gone. Taking the time to volunteer for community events and programs and also makes quality time for our family and tends to our home as well.

Thank you David for all you do~!

You truly inspire me!

This recipe is from my Transitions Coach and a wonderful woman all around Kathy Burg. She forwarded this to me and I want to share because it sounds absolutely awesome!

An onion's distinctive smell and taste enhance the natural flavors of almost any vegetable. Onions also contain plant chemicals that may improve blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Why not liven up your next meal with onions? Try this hearty, savory side dish to complement a marinated chicken breast or lean, tender pork loin.
Roasted Brussels Sprouts With Pearl Onions and Fresh Thyme (Phase 1)

Makes 8 servings

Description
The secret to savory brussels sprouts is to brown them first, then roast until just tender, not mushy. This may mean you have to test a sprout a few times, using a sharp paring knife, to see if it's done.
Ingredients
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
2 pints (about 1 1/2 pounds total) small brussels sprouts, trimmed
1 bag (8 ounces) frozen small pearl onions, thawed
1 1/2 to 2 cups reduced-sodium chicken broth
1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
Salt and pepper
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F. Warm oil in large, heavy ovenproof skillet over medium heat. Add sprouts; cook 5 minutes, stirring, until slightly golden. Add onions; cook 2 minutes, stirring, until golden. Pour broth into skillet to reach halfway up vegetables. Stir in thyme, salt, and pepper.
Bring broth to a simmer; transfer skillet to oven. Roast 15-20 minutes, until a sharp knife easily slides through a sprout. Transfer to serving bowl; serve hot.
Make-ahead tip: Sprouts can be trimmed 1 day in advance. Cook the sprouts and onions just before serving.

Thought For The Day
How To Recognize A Negative Attitude
By Catherine Pulsifer, © 2008

How you feel and how you react is in direct relation to how you think. Some people let random circumstances predict their day.

For example, they go to make coffee and find there is none left. They start the day by sarcastically thinking, "Oh great, this going to be a good day". Then, for the remainder of the day, they allow minor inconveniences, unexplained challenges, or other less than ideal events to reinforce their original negative thought.

You can recognize their negative attitude just by listening to how they talk.

If you allow your mind to dwell on unhappy situations, you can expect your day to unfold in the same manner.

Look forward to your day and don't let negative thoughts control it. Change how you interpret or react to life's events, and you actually change your attitude from a negative one to a positive one. If you run out of coffee, change your thought to: "if this is the worse thing that could happen to me today the rest of my day will be great."

If you continually think negative thoughts then you are setting yourself up to allow only negative events to be your companion for the rest of the day. When something good does occur, you won't even recognize it.

So many holiday parties and so little time, to help you manage this busy time of year we've compiled a list of helpful tips from what appetizers, treats and gifts to bring to your holiday party. Let us help you save time and money this year by offering a variety of gifting ideas for your holiday events.

Host and Hostess Gifts

It's always proper etiquette to bring a host gift, even if it's something small, like a box of mints or a bottle of wine, Unfortunately, this traditional rule of etiquette isn't always followed today, especially for large, informal parties.

Although the gift of a bottle of wine always is in season, why not consider these creative alternatives?

* Complement a bottle of wine with a wine charm, custom wine wrap or Wine Glace' drink mix.

* Give a breakfast basket filled with locally created bread, cookies, an assortment of gourmet jams, fireside mocha coffee, New Roots Gourmet Coffee from Ringle, creamy chocolate cocoa and gourmet tea selections.

* Give a family movie snack kit with a variety of flavored gourmet popcorn, Jordan almonds and chocolates a new release family movie or gift certificate to Blockbuster.

* Tuck an assortment of homemade holiday treats into a decorative tin.

* Give a holiday dip mix and a beautiful festive dip container with serving knife.

Regardless of what you bring as a thank-you, never forget to give from the heart. A personal touch means the gift you select will mean that much more to the receiver.

Sticking to a Diet During the Holidays

A good way to help head off temptation is to have a light, healthy snack or drink several glasses of water before you go to the party. If you're slightly full, you'll be less likely to overindulge. An alternative to abstinence is bringing your own appetizer or dish, made with diet-friendly ingredients.

The good news for low-carb dieters is that many popular party foods are naturally low in carbohydrates - cold cuts, meatballs, cheeses, nuts and vegetable crudités among them.

Most important enjoy your family and friends and being together and sharing time.   If you need any assistance this year with small host or hostess gifts.  Give me a jingle and I will help you sail through the holidays with less stress and more time to enjoy the festivities!

Holiday Blessings,
Jenn
Wanna Talk Office Politics!
From: www.idealbite.com

You could start a rainforest rally next to the coffee stirrers, or you could just post our Top 10 Easiest Ways to Green Your Office in the break room bulletin board. Either way, it'll be a nice change from just talking smack on the guy in the cubicle down the hall (fun as that is).

The Benefits:
Easy does it. Simple tips like recycling ink cartridges and setting computers to hibernate are easy enough for even your schmuckiest coworker.
An eco-cleaner workplace. Example: Office buildings account for 28% of commercial energy demand, but the Department of Energy says that with a few easy changes we can reduce office energy use by 10%. You can also save paper and plastic, and avert CO2 and noxious chems.

The holidays are about sharing and coming together to express appreciation and value for what truly matters in our lives. Yes its great to get bargains. But remember what its all about. Remember when you are at the store and about to yell at someone because their cart is in the way or your fustrated waiting in long lines. Yes this happened to me on Friday. I chose to reflect on what is important and not let it get to me. Remember that it is about love and family and appreciation. We should remember this every day and especially during hard times and the holidays. Choose to do something together as a family and create an experience that will always be remembered. Remember what you have. Count your blessings. You can do this with your families and within your business as well.

Have a super week and we will see you next time!

Blessings,
Jenn
