Happy New Year to Everyone!

 

Wow! What a cold and blustery and dreary winter it has been so far....Fortunately or Unfortunately we ride in a covered arena so our days have been full with riding even in these very cold Temps. The horses are doing great though and they are all becoming quite bomb proof to cold temps, icicles thawing and dropping to the ground beside the arena with loud crashes and riding through blowing rain.

 I am going to keep you updated on Gracie ...but....continue to cover other subjects.

 This video is of her last training period. She is no longer the bucking,striking,rearing and biting horse that came to our barn. We have only really been riding her for about 4 weeks. This is how far she has come....it took 6 months just to handle, saddle and sit on her.

 Alot of people have asked why we are not wearing helmets....have no excuse at all...other than to say...we grew up riding ranch horses in Texas and to be honest...I had never seen anyone ride with a helmet until I was in my 30's. I know that sounds so "wierd and strange" to most of you...but it would not sound strange if you grew up in West Texas.

 We do wear helmets at the ranch though from time to time. We are currently working on a 5 year old Arab stallion who is starting under saddle with an attention span of 5 minutes and the energy of about 50 Quarter Horses....we are wearing  helmets!

 Our barn is full to overflowing and all the horses we have had for sale are sold..with the exception of a new one...so we are counting our Blessings! We work hard to earn our client's trust in a horse world that is not always known for honesty and integrity.

  In the next Mountaintop Minute...I will be telling you about an exciting clinic we are hosting....in the meantime we are taking a field trip to the Road to the Horse...I already feel like we ( the trainers and apprentices at Mountaintop Ranch) are equal to the skills of some of these famous TV trainers...but there is always more to learn.....Gracie was quite the project!  Enjoy this episode of TRAINING GRACIE
