Toby We are about to leave for a week of summer vacation...it is hard to believe that we are actually heading for the beach. I am going to Chincoteague to revisit "pony penning" and the summer 9 years ago when Toby, a palomono paint pony first came into our lives...a 3 month old shivering frightened baby that just swam across the channel.
Toby is now 9 years old and  teaching children how to canter and jump at kids riding camp this week...he is robust and full of life and quite spoiled...the way it should be.
In April, I had the opportunity to work with Gracie...a 9 year old breeding stock paint mare that has never had a chance in life. She is well bred and was born in a great environment but sold as a weanling to someone that had alot of dreams as a new horse owner...but little idea of what it was to own a foal. Gracie ended up being rescued as an adult after spending her entire life living almost like a feral horse. Gracie is a PROJECT... she is undeniably talented and would make a great event prospect.
...but Gracie is as near to a feral horse as we have ever worked with....I am going to introduce you to Gracie...you will see a well behaved horse doing simple tasks. All the things you see her doing has taken 3 months...5 days a week...Work, Work, and more Work.
Gracie is not a horse for the faint of heart...or for the casual "backyard" trainer or horse person. Gracie has had the chance to mame and injure us several times...but we love Gracie...and we are wondering what she will teach us.
Several of Gracie's sessions have taken up to 3 hours to get anything "correct" from her.
I could not video any of the really stressful sessions because I was in the middle of teaching...and you would think that either she was going to kill us or we were going to kill her...whichever came first...but I do have some footage from those training sessions....I might show them later .... but for now...
                            Just Meet Gracie...
