Chamber's Government Community Affairs Committee Atlanta Fly-In a Huge Success
Seventeen community leaders traveled to Atlanta to meet with the Governor and other elected officials to discuss issues affecting Camden County. The trip was the first of an Annual Atlanta Fly-In. Those traveling to Atlanta included representatives from the three Cities, County, JDA, Chamber, Partnership, School System, Businesses, Camden Partnership and Altamaha Technical College.
The group of 17 met with Governor Sonny Perdue, Speaker of the House David Ralston, Senator Tommie Williams, Representative Bob Smith, Vice Chair of Appropriations, Senator Seth Harp, Chairman of Higher Education, DOT Commissioner Vance Smith, and Senator Jeff Chapman. Issues discussed included: Critical Need for Technical College, Financial Support for Education, Colerain Road Evacuation, Kings Bay Ready for Mission Growth, and Continued Support for Georgia Military Affairs Committee (GMACC).
Again, Camden County was well represented and spoke with one voice. The meetings held gave us a great opportunity to relay the needs of Camden, showcase our community and in the process learn firsthand what is happening in Atlanta.
From Left: Superintendent Will Hardin, Kingston Field Representative Tim Wessinger, Kingsland Mayor Kenneth Smith, County Administrator Steve Howard, Past US Navy League President Sheila McNeill, Chamber Board Member Charlie Smith, Chamber Board Member Bert Guy, Executive Director St. Marys DDA Alyce Thornhill, Chamber Board Chairman Alex Blount, Governor Sonny Perdue, JDA Chairman John McDill, Camden Partnership Executive Director Marty Klumpp, Georgia Power Area Manager Joel Hanner, Chamber President/CEO Christine Daniel, JDA Executive Director David Keating, State Representative Cecily Hill, SMUMCF President Jeff Barker, Past State Representative Charlie Smith Jr, and Altamaha Technical College President Lorette Hoover. |

Military Community Affairs Committee is Looking for Volunteers
The Chamber is in the process of establishing a Military Community Affairs committee, and is looking for Chamber members who would like to be on the committee. Its primary focus will be to cultivate and enhance a positive working relationship between the business community and the military personnel at Naval Submarine Base, Kings Bay (NSBKB). The committee will also look for any opportunities to increase participation of businesses with on-Base contracts. It is envisioned there will be a NSBKB representative on the committee.
If interested in being involved with the Military Community Affairs committee, please contact the Chamber office at info@camdenchamber.org or call 912-729-5840 by January 29th. No time has been set for an initial meeting, nor has the schedule for future meetings been determined. That will be worked out with those expressing an interest in working on the committee. |
Leadership Alumni Sponsored the 2nd "Success Series"
The Leadership Camden Alumni sponsored the 2nd "Success Series" event hosted by Charlie and Trisha Smith in their home. The evening was wonderful with great fellowship, wonderful desserts all baked or made by Trisha and most of all heard all the great things both Charlie and Trisha have done in their lives, for their families and for your community. If you are a graduate of Leadership Camden and are not a member of the Alumni, you are missing out on some fantastic opportunities to meet some fascinating people living and working right next door.
Thank you to Charlie and Trisha for a wonderful and most rewarding evening. We were also fortunate enough to have five of the students with perfect attendance from Southeast CEO Leadership Program hosted by CCAR and led by Jessica Landreth.

What's the Most Important Item You Want to Let Others Know About Your Business?
How would you like to learn something about other Chamber members and what they may be able to offer you, or better yet, what you may be able to offer them? If inquiring minds want to know answer this simple question and email your response to info@camdenchamber.com:
"What's the most important thing about your business?" These responses can range from "We are 100% employee owned" to "We only purchase American made goods" to "Everything we do is focused on relieving your pain".
This is an effective way to make contact with other Chamber members, learn something about their business, promote products and services and every month make for some great reading in the next issue of Your Chamber News.
Just one of many benefits of Chamber Membership. Don't miss out on a great way to introduce yourself. We hope we can fill the next newsletter, but remember there is only so much room, so get your feedback in quickly or it will have to wait until the following month for all to see! |
