2,147 PEOPLE WAITING FOR BOOKS
Spring is our most productive time at PBP. Enthusiastic volunteers come in droves. Choice books from our fall book drive are still making their way from basements and garages onto the shelves. The selection of books has never been better!
Unfortunately we have over 2000 book requests waiting to be filled but only enough cash to mail about 300. Please consider making a donation - large or small - and help us "Blow out our backlog."

DR. BIERMANN GROWS A BEARD AND RAISES OVER $300 FOR PBP
Dr. B.C. Biermann of California Baptist University gets our award for the most unique fundraiser. Dr. Biermann pledged to grow a beard for 90 days and convinced friends, students and colleagues to pledge money for each day he stuck with it. All together, he raised over $300 for the Prison Book Program - enough to send books to more than 100 people!
Before moving to Los Angeles to teach humanities at California Baptist, Dr. Biermann taught as a volunteer at the St. Louis County Correctional Facility in Missouri. He appreciates the impact God has had on his own life and has always had a heart for people in prison. He is hoping to teach again at a facility in the Los Angeles area - and he's planning to make "Beard for Books" an annual event.
We thank Dr. Biermann for his dedication to the Prison Book Program and to people in prison. Do you have an idea for a fundraiser? Let us know!

| Meet Our "Housemates" - the Adams Family |
|
| "LET US TENDERLY AND KINDLY CHERISH THEREFORE THE MEANS OF KNOWLEDGE. LET US DARE TO READ, SPEAK, THINK AND WRITE."
- JOHN ADAMS
A highlight of volunteering at the Prison Book Program is the bonus history lesson on the Adams family. For those who've never been to our office, we are located in the historic United First Parish Church which was built by our 6th president - John Quincy Adams - in 1828. It is also the final resting place of John Adams, his wife Abigail, John Quincy Adams and his wife Catherine. They are entombed in crypts in the church basement just a few feet from our office.
Because it houses an active congregation, the church is not a part of the nearby Adams National Historic Park and receives no funding from the federal government. Tours of the church run from April 19th through November 10th and proceeds support the building and the visitors program. If you are in the area, stop by for a most interesting history lesson and support our partner* and landlord!
*Although they wholeheartedly endorse our work, we are an independent organization and do not receive financial support from the church. |

| A BETTER AND BRAND NEW DAY
Life is not always easy It gets confusing from time to time Don't let it take control of you Just keep an open mind We all have problems in life Some just can't be seen And most of life's problems Are not as bad as they seem Just look around you closely People everywhere are confused And how it's gonna work out Really all depends on you Don't ever give up on life Stay positive and keep the faith Cause right around the corner Is a better and brand new day
