The Wellness Center - Real Resources
Nurture and Love yourself this Valentine's Day

Valentine's DayFebruary, the month of love is here.  With the coming of 2010 does it feel like there is a shift happening? It does for me. It feels like people are slowing down and waking up. Part of this is an outcome of the slowing economy.  It gets people to think twice about what and where they are putting their money.

In a time of financial abundance it is easy to get carried away with extra luxuries such as traveling, going out to eat, weekend getaways, shopping for new clothes, new car, new homes, and more material possessions.

In a down economy, we think twice about what we are spending our money on.  We hopefully get to stop and really think about what the priorities are in our lives and our spending reflects those values.  I believe that, many people would spend time with friends and family rather than go on shopping spree or buy a new car.  Eating fresh, organic produce is more important than going out to eat every night.  What are your values, and are your spending habits in alignment with your values?

There is also a shift happening with sickness.  Many people are no longer waiting until they get sick, but being more proactive towards maintaining their health and wellness.  Following are a few reminders to help you create a low stress lifestyle.

1) Get enough sleep
2) Maintain proper nutrition
3) Exercise/Move regularly
4) Maintain social support
5) Pamper yourself
6) Always be learning new things
7) Maintain a positive attitude
8) Take down time or quiet time for yourself

This shift is definitely not an easy one.  When you start putting your health and well being on the top of the priority list, it is hard to live the in the normal confines of American society.  A construct that promotes working long hours, being available at all times and in your free time running around doing errands to maintain all the stuff we own.

Taking care of yourself means that you slow down and ask yourself what do I enjoy?  What gives me pleasure?  It helps provide a compass for you to find balance in todays crazy busy world

This Valentines Day I encourage you to treat yourself to something that feels good and nutures your sense of well being.  It doesn't need to be expensive, maybe it is bath, or brunch with good friends, whatever it may be, honor yourself and your spirit.
Celebrate YOU this Valentine's Day.  You deserve it.
