Swine Flu Alert |
As you've likely heard, the outbreak of disease in people caused by a new influenza virus of swine origin continues to grow in the United States and internationally. Most cases in the U.S. have been in individuals who have traveled to Mexico and their close contacts.
This virus causes influenza-like illness and is spread in the same manner as seasonal influenza. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization have mobilized an intensive response to this outbreak, including infection control measures and identification and treatment of infected individuals.
The infection is spread from person to person primarily through coughing and sneezing. Symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Some people have reported diarrhea and vomiting.
The virus is susceptible to antiviral drugs, so confirmed cases can be treated promptly. This will decrease the severity and duration of illness as well as prevent complications.
Good hand-washing and avoiding close contact with sick individuals are the best ways to protect yourself.
The CDC will be issuing daily interim guidelines as the outbreak continues, and we will be closely monitioring this for our patients.
For more information, visit the CDC's website.

Practice Update |
In just the past few months, our practice has experienced significant growth. And while we're thrilled to have so many wonderful new patients, we're certainly aware of the consequential growing pains. We realize that new patient appointments are being scheduled farther out than the norm and that follow-up and urgent appointments are harder to come across each day. Please know that we are committed to providing you nothing less than the exceptional level of customer service that we believe you deserve and that you have, no doubt, come to expect. In keeping with that commitment, we recently welcomed internist Kim Miller, M.D., to the practice, and we are hoping to add two more providers before the end of the summer. While we work to make these and other improvements to our services during this time of rapid change, there are also a few things that you, as patients, can do to help improve the patient experience for everyone:
-
Please schedule routine, non-urgent physicals as far in advance as possible (preferably six months).
-
Please call first thing in the morning with urgent needs.
-
Please be flexible with which provider you see for urgent needs. All of the providers in our practice are excellent. When your needs are urgent, our primary goal is to treat you.
-
Please schedule pre-operative physicals two weeks in advance. These physicals call for a longer, 40-minute appointment and often require us to schedule subsequent testing prior to your surgery.
-
Please keep in mind that e-mail communication is for non-urgent needs. Please call the office with urgent needs. Patients participating in the Comprehensive and Comprehensive Plus plans who have physician e-mail access should reserve it for non-urgent health questions. | |
Thank you for your patience as we embrace and manage these positive changes in our practice. As always, we place great value on open communication with our patients. If you ever have any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to contact us at 513.271.5111 or officeinfo@lisalarkinmd.com.
Sincerely, Lisa Larkin, M.D. Maria Wright, M.D. Lisa Joliat, M.D Kim Miller, M.D. Cindy Dellinger, M.D., F.A.C.O.G. Sondra Lyness, P.A.-C.
