Holiday Fashion Tips

Use this year's holiday party season to escape! Really have fun -- step out of the box and wear something you normally would not (men, this includes you!) There are so many great items out right now. For women, there are many affordable, great dresses--from long, bright ones to short metallics. Mix different fabrics! Throw on a fur (fake or real). Thrift stores are a great place to find vintage fur pieces (real and fake) that can add some spice in an affordable way. On a tight budget? "Shop" a friend's closet! She may have the perfect dress and necklace to go with your royal blue suede heels that you're dying to wear!

| Holiday Shopping Tips on a Tight Budget
First and foremost, never forget the true meaning of the holiday season is to stop and reflect on our blessings, share time with loved ones and enjoy what we have. For so many people, the holiday season brings on unnecessary stress--stress to find the "perfect" gift, the perfect party dress, or to prepare the perfect meal. In a time when so many of us are struggling with job loss, savings depletion and an unknown future, these stressors seem, well, trivial.
If you are shopping for loved ones this season, take a moment to consider gifts that either a.) lighten the mood and bring joy! b.) alleviate some financial burden, or c.) both! Remember those savings bonds from when you were a kid? Seemed pretty dull when you were six, but how great was it when you cashed it in after college? Don't hesitate to carry on the tradition with the next generation, perhaps with a meaningful letter or funny pictures of you at the age when you received your first savings bond. You might also contribute to a child's 529 plan, if that's an option.
Nearly all local grocers offer gift certificates--many offer cash back or additional gift certificates with the purchase of a specified amount. Pair a Kroger gift certificate with one of your favorite recipes, or add a homemade coupon organizer. These are gifts that are thoughtful AND practical.
Of course, homemade gifts are always well received. Create a memory album for a dear friend or for grandparents -- dig out those scrapbooking supplies you purchased two years ago and put them to use! Baked goods are always a hit! Remember to include the recipe, too.
With the current financial crisis impacting us all, there's no better time to put an end to wasteful, excessive spending. And, there's no better gift than time. Make sure to make time for your friends, family and yourself this holiday season.

What's Hot for Winter Fashion? What's that one hot must-have item in your closet for this season?
Men: A great tweed blazer. Not only can you wear it with dress pants and tie for work, but you can throw it on as an outer coat and pair with a sweater or long sleeve top and scarf. Not into tweed? Look for a good quality, timeless camel hair blazer. It's just as versatile and will remain a classic. Men will also see lots of patterned sweaters (cardigans included.) Don't be afraid to mix with patterned dress shirts underneath. If there are multiple colors in both, make sure there is at least one of the same color in both to really pull it together.
Other must-haves: Lots
of corduroy this year - everything from blazers to suits! Yes, corduroy
suits are back! Women: Fun tights! This winter's must-have is lots and lots of fun tights. There are many great patterns out there that you can pair with sweater dresses, wraps and skirts. Not sure about funky patterns? Then opt for a new color, maybe a rust, olive or navy--something other than basic, boring black. Colored tights are a great way to add some "oomph" to one of last season's dresses with minimal cost. Pair with funky booties, knee-length boots or heels.
Other must-haves: Patterned sweaters and jackets. Have fun mixing it up!
